View Full Version : H.I. CVT Highest Stock MPG xzizx 07-11-2008, 03:58 PM > What it is. am anyone got a good MPG for the CVT to claim. My best,2006 HI is 75, and that wasn't for more than 1.5 miles. PaleMelanesian 07-11-2008, 04:45 PM Take a look here: http://www.cleanmpg.com/cmps_index.php?page=garage Those are tank averages and lifetime averages. xcel 07-11-2008, 04:53 PM Hi Xzizx: ___It will not quite reach the heights of the 5-speed of course but I know of one that finished off at 145 mpg on a 26 mile round trip FE Challenge last year ;) ___Good Luck ___Wayne xzizx 07-13-2008, 02:42 PM >Well looky here. Your words are much appreciated. I wonder, could a stock CVT ever get 145 mpg? or am that one with extras . I ordered the Scan thing, after passing another Silver HI hyere in Dallas, with Cleanmpgcom written cross the tail of his Silver HI. I could see the lights from the thing (this was like 5.3 in the AM.) I understand, this helps one to not push the gas pedal more than needed. BTW do anybody know out there if the device that brings manual control to the Electric Assit cancels out the 150K warranty? (probably does) Also, (oh well questions questions!) have been doubtfull of the way the cars "modulator" is modulating. I have been to the Honda dealer three times (the warranty is soon to end), and their answer for why it is fine is the fact I was able to get 70 mpg at all. It had the 60K manintenance already with 59K on it. No mention was made of a May 19th 2008 Honda recall, for ECU modulator and something else. Anyone know? Is that recall for 2006 model cars as well? G-d Bless each and everyone of my good gas misering friends hyere! xzizx xzizx 07-13-2008, 03:20 PM >Hey "Pale melanesian" I DO know what "melanesian" is! Excellnt. Great job with your car. Incredible MPG I think! The link was good. However it really drove home the lack of CVT HI's, and dominance of 5 speeds. However the one that did post, posted a 63mpg avg. It makes such a difference, stock to modded with the HI, that it would really help if the modded ones were in a separate cat. BTW "Melanesian", the Honda dealer said that there IS a big difference in gas mileage from the Heat hyere in Texas alone. THAT the best MPG days are in the Spring. I've only been hyere five months and only had the HI for less than one. How much do you think the heat costs us? A guess laurieaw 07-13-2008, 03:28 PM you might want to talk to Delta Flyer who posts here a lot. he is in texas and has a silver insight.....i think he has the 5 speed and gets close to 100MPG on his daily commute. might have even been his car that you saw. xzizx 07-14-2008, 09:28 AM >Well thanky Laurieaw. It probably was. I find that the world really isn't that big, and imagine it very likely. Especially in lieu of the fact this person has Cleanmpg.com painted across the back of his HI. He held up a newspaper to me, signalling something. I don't know what. Way too dark. Maybe just "get the news" at cleanmpg.com Isn't it great. I used to be a big hot rod nut in my early days (the 60's-70's). I find the same depth of satisfaction, trying to squeeze every last livin inch of distsance from every drop of gas. I mean this is really addicting. Can't get 220 mpg? Okay, have a helicopter lift the HI, high up the tallest mountain with a road on it, and coast down hill. Would the digital display even be able to calculate it? bababooey said no. PaleMelanesian 07-14-2008, 09:40 AM Regarding the heat - I've been tracking every single trip I take for over 1.5 years now. My mileage improves up until about 80 degrees, and levels off / decreases slightly from there. Summer isn't too bad, if you don't use the AC. I don't. If you do, you'll get a major mileage hit in the summer. :) I grew up in the South Pacific, among the Melanesian islanders. I'm of Irish descent, and therefore pale. xzizx 07-17-2008, 02:01 PM >Well thats cool! Palemelanesian! Both the Irish descent (I am Scottish and a Jew at that!) and the inf about summer driving. Yeah i have eliminated using the A/C finding it comfortable enough with the windows down. I use if I give an elder a ride. My "new" High MPG is 80.3 mpg over 3.7 miles. With an 86.2 MPG for 1.1 miles and a 78.9 for 3.2 mile mean. I have found the difference between 70's and 80's is all in NOT holding the pedal down while attaining cruise speed, but using pauses, just like the maual does, as the gears are shifted. That and getting the absolute BEST start possible. I find if I get the max efficient takeoff, I can hold the overall number up. While if I get hit by some "thing" a hill,an idiot, an unexpected stop etc. it is just real hard to recover. GREAT MPG's to ALL Parasite 07-17-2008, 04:34 PM My Blue CVT Insight has a 53.1 lifetime average. It is low because of a short commute to work. It is stock. Higher than normal tire pressure has increased the mileage by ~10%, and my longer current summer commute has raised trip averages to the 60-70mpg range. Note that there should be no need for a scan gage because the Insight comes with one. It can be turned off, so check your Owner's Manual on how to turn it back on. Holding either the FCD or Trip button for a not short time does it, but I always forget which. xzizx 07-19-2008, 12:02 PM >Hey Para, how much over do you have your tires pumped? I tried 44 with my Bridgestones, and it felt like I was driving on stones period. Not to mention the heat pushing the odds for blowout. The scan gauge. I have felt like my Honda gauges might need checking. with the Honda Dealer not able to prove them, I figured a scan gauge would. I really feel the car could use more "assistance" from the elctric mtr. But the MIMA will cancel a valuable warranty. <<xzizx>>200 Parasite 07-28-2008, 09:45 AM I have my tires set in the high 50's. No problems at all. I took it in for the 60,000 service, and had to get new tires (standard wear). I only asked them to go up to the 44 max, but then stopped at a gas station (QT has free Air) for more. A few weeks later, I did get a flat on the NEW front tire. I really suspect that is was from the roofing nail and not the high pressure that caused it. Nothing happened to the tire despite the high pressure except the nail hole. It is patched now and holding at 44 psi. After I let the patch set a while, I will put some more air in. I want to give it a month or two. xzizx 08-13-2008, 05:36 PM Hey, BTW I got the scan gauge and there is some real serious differences in the MPH, and the MPG . The dash at 75 MPG reads like 68 on SG2. The MPH is off about the same. I got it set right, for Hybrids. So i am going to the dealer to hear there effort to explain it as "nothing". Yeah I'm going to add more air to my tires, like go to 42 from the 38. The roads in Dallas are mostly cement so, they have alot of cracks and peaks . It can really be aggravating I try to weave through them all. There are also holes in the edges of the concrete that you can't see fast enough . I hate my great car having to eat these hits. Its almost as big a challenge (missing these) as it is keeping mpg's up. Had some 'tard honk at me at the toll booth for taking too long, this while the other lane was open all along. They honked three more times after I paid and drove off! This even having a completely clear lane to pass me in! I just know they resent seeing a car that reminds them of their trips to the gas pump. Honestly I pray for every single H.I. and Prius owners safety. This is going to get wild. Venezuela. 19 cent gallons. PaleMelanesian 08-13-2008, 05:39 PM If the mph and the mpg are off by the same amount, try adjusting the "speed" setting on the SG. It affects both the mph reading and the M part of the MPG gauge. lightfoot 08-13-2008, 06:00 PM The Insight has such good gauges I don't bother with the SG in it. If I did put the SG in, I would use it to monitor other things like coolant and air temps for example. Rather than the MPH or MPG that the car gives me already? The stock gauges agree quite well with the gallon numbers I get from the gas pump. xzizx 08-26-2008, 11:47 AM .Thanks for both inputs/ P.Melan. and Reformed Speeder. Will check the spped setting as suggested and use the other readings/coolant-air temp also. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
