Spiritual 'hypermiling'
A Christian Science perspective on daily life.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/CSM/story?id=5273050&page=1
Oil prices are over $130 per barrel, gasoline over $4 a gallon, and bread and milk prices are going up – as well as everything else at the store. But for most people, income isn't rising to meet these increased costs.
One way to attack the problem is by spiritual "hypermiling." Automotive hypermiling is squeezing every extra mile possible out of every gallon of gasoline in the tank (see The Christian Science Monitor, "Getting the most out of a gallon," June 12). Spiritual hypermiling, then, would be squeezing every bit of good that's available from our understanding of God and His laws and looking for evidence of it in our daily lives.
The story continues from there.
I hadn't thought about applying the term hypermiling in this way.
MT bucket 07-09-2008, 09:44 PM I agree! strive to get the most out of what God gives us and seek to know Him more!
Or as Jesus says , be hot, or cold, but do not be luke warm! :)

brother 07-09-2008, 09:47 PM There ARE blessings to be counted in high gas prices, after all...
MT bucket 07-09-2008, 09:49 PM Amen! preach it Brother!:D
brother 07-09-2008, 09:58 PM I am surprised (but encouraged) to see an article like that on on one of the, for lack of a better word right now -- standard, news outlets.
Good find, Eric! :D
Chuck 07-09-2008, 09:59 PM Good news: I'm not in much problem with the sin of gas gluttony
Bad news: the past few months if had problems with old-fashined gluttony - 15 pounds!

Oh my! I have actually lost weight since I started hypermilin'
the 2 main reasons
1. I had a terrible habit of snackin' in my car. Now I don't eat while driving, too much distraction for me , so I am hitting the Superamerica gas -n- grub alot less.
2. parking right away instead of idling around looking for a close space, not only saves fuel but forces me to walk a bit more, and I do need the exercise!:o
Mabye we should start a new fad, the hyper mile diet!:D
MT Bucket, I think you are on to something great:
Hypermilers Diet, the no fad diet opposed by the AAA. Lose weight without pills, and get even more miles out of a gallon of gasoline.
I think there could even be a Hypermiler's cook book in the offing.
Anyone want to run with those?
dare2be 07-10-2008, 12:53 AM I dunno, this thread has too many elements of televangelism and telemarketing/infomercials for my tastes, especially for a heathen like myself :p

mongoose 07-10-2008, 11:11 AM and of course the less you weigh the less your car has to carry and the more MPG you'll get ;)
DocOc 07-11-2008, 04:08 PM it's refreshing to see this kind of article. thanks
scissorhands 07-15-2008, 05:24 AM Hahaha wastefulness is not next to godliness! Recently someone was selling a Daihatsu Mira 800cc 3cylinder 700kg beast on our ebay in NZ called 'Trademe', the ad said very 'ecumenical'. The Mira even had a minor crumple on the curb side front guard! Funny how ecumenical and economical kinda sound the same...Free bible with that hybrid?
Chuck 07-15-2008, 05:58 AM I'm kind of lost on the ad saying the car was "ecumenical", but can see the observation that fuel economy could be seen as a viture by practically any belief.
mr. blue sky 07-16-2008, 05:14 AM i am also glad whenever I see positive things like this for people who are into these things, even though I am on the cold side of things myself(works out great in the hot summer:p)
