Great info on this site. I own two 2008 Prius taxi's.
I am averaging 12,000 km per month. Started practicing P&G 4 days ago and managed to do 4.0 L/100 km over 215 km on Sunday. I will try to perfect the P&G and then implement some other techniques. Saving over $20,000 this year on fuel.
The place where I gas up says they will still talk to me despite cutting my fuel bill in half.
They jokingly said I have been cut from a 4 star customer to a 2 star customer.
Thanks for the awesome info!

Awesome, welcome! Be sure to forward any comments you get from
fares, such as them feeling safer because you aren't tailgating
all the other cars on the road and not screaming off the line
at lights...

I assume that you are based in Canada, but may I ask in which province?

Msantos--- I am in Kingston Ontario-- I guess you would be the one to ask about how the Prius does in the winter and what kind of snow tires to buy. Winters don't get any tougher than Winnipeg so you should know as well as anyone.

Hobbit- Over 50% of my customers have questions and seem to be very interested in hybrid cars. The number of people asking took a pretty good spike in the last couple weeks with the price of gas hitting $1.40 a litre. Most love the idea of hybrid taxi's and I make sure I show them the 0.0 on the monitor when I am gliding. We are starting to get some customers calling in a requesting the hybrid cabs which is great for my drivers and I with only 7 hybrids on the 70 car fleet.

Hello and welcome to the club.

You should start by knowing your car’s EPA rating located at FuelEconomy.gov (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm) and make sure to read the article “Beating the EPA” (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1510).

Make sure you air your tires up to the maximum pressure indicated on the tire’s sidewall.

Also, consider purchasing a ScanGaugeII (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=103426). It is an invaluable source of information and will quickly pay for itself in fuel savings.

However, please be careful as hypermiling is addictive. :)

Hi Lucky1. The Prius is doing extremely well here under winter duty and it is becoming hard to find a Taxi that is not a Prius. ;)
From my own experience, a good set of winter tires is absolutely mandatory and I personally find the Michelin's X-ICE to be the best of breed with superior adhesion and minimal impact on fuel economy.

Also, blocking the front grille is another absolute necessity as without it the ICE barely ever shuts down and at the end of the day that can make a difference. The regular use of the block heater is also a given.
