I'm waiting for the dealer to call back with the final payment/pick-up details. The final price was $2800. It is supposed to have new tires and a new clutch. And, at nearly 700 miles for the trip home, it looks like I'll have a good start on "Expert" status. :D
krousdb 07-01-2006, 11:30 AM What is the EPA rating?
tbaleno 07-01-2006, 11:30 AM Good luck on it. Now your goal is to get better FE than in the old car.
tigerhonaker 07-01-2006, 11:35 AM :) New Ride, Very
Congrats: :D

EPA figure are 27 city, 38 highway, and 31 combined.
Hot Georgia 07-01-2006, 12:14 PM Larry that's a nice looking car, I'm sure you'll beat the pants off that 31 combined.
Does that mean you'll be coming to hybridfest?
Sure hope so! :)

If I come to Hybridfest, it probably won't be with the new car. The guy that is picking it up for me is going to take it back to his house in the Harrisburg, PA area and put the Sommender Singh grooves in the heads and tweak the cam timing and a few other little tricks. Also, if he gets his dyno up and running in time, he can use it to tune the car for max FE. If I'm able to make it, I'll be driving my '92 Grand Prix. I'm able to pretty well destroy the EPA on that as well. EPA figures are 19 city, 29 highway, and 22 combined. It is quite normal for me to see 34-35 on the highway. Around home, 22 is a bad tank. With a 16.5 gallon tank 500+ miles on the highway is possible.
philmcneal 07-01-2006, 09:39 PM wow what a steal... how much mileage did your old car had larry? aha saturns sure have excellent value.
diamondlarry 07-01-2006, 10:14 PM The old one had 136,000+ miles. I have heard of Saturn's going upwards of 260,000 miles if taken care of properly.
philmcneal 07-02-2006, 02:20 AM i give you the benifit of the doubt due to you being on the road for cheap :D
nice work larry, good luck with you new car and thanks for the updates!
HyChi 07-02-2006, 08:52 AM Good for you, Larry! A friend of mine has an S2 and has been very happy with it for years. He's had zero problems with the car as it continues to ride smoothly. With the manual transmission you will certainly be blasting your way through the EPA figures. Congratulations!
Hi Larry:
___Could you possibly hold off on the Singh mods for an A-B comparison before hand? You will never know unless you peak without? I personally would like to see the A-B differences and even see a write up on it if the grooves are truly worth their weight.
___Good Luck

Unfortunately, because of logistics, I won't get to wait. A friend of mine who lives in the Harrisburg, PA area is going to be actually picking up the car from the dealer and taking it back to his house. He is also an FE guy so I can have him keep track of mpg records prior to the mod. I'll see if he will drive the car for his daily use until he gets started. As some of you know, that area of PA is not flat compared to the Northern IN area so mpg could be different when I get home. I will however get to compare the mpg from Paramis, NJ to Harrisburg to the mpg from my friends house to the Youngstown, OH area which will be similar terrain.
I can say that the mods were making a significant difference in my old Saturn. I only wish I could have had more time to find out how big those differences were. One more small note, I noticed that my car was labled as a California emissions car even though the car, as far as CarFax could tell, was NOT purchased in CA or, for that matter, was ever IN CA. It looks like I won't have the car at my house until early to mid August. :(
