...because every jerk thinks they are...Special!
Sighted by: lamebums
Vehicle: Unknown Semi
Place: I-275, Taylor Mill, KY
Date: June 30, 2008 - ~3:30 PM
I'm going to Ohio to get gas and just minding my own business, DWL'ing in the right lane at about 50.
I think the picture through the rear view is self-explanatory?
Seriously, drafting semis is not the dangerous technique. A semi tailgating a small car is twice as dangerous since the semi has absolutely no chance whatsoever of stopping in time should I suddenly need to stop in an emergency.
Got stories of your own? Send us your pictures and stories and we'll feature them on Jerk of the Day!
Chuck 06-30-2008, 06:09 PM Where are the AAA and ATA when you need them? ;)
fixedintime 06-30-2008, 06:56 PM One thing I've been known to say is that traffic fines should be proportional to the weight of the vehicle. When the big ones cause an accident the consequences are much worst - so make their fines proportionately stiffer.
lightfoot 06-30-2008, 09:53 PM Isn't the photo reversed? Or you were shooting into the mirror?

Shooting into the mirror. You can see the reflection of my phone on the left side. I try to do this for tailgaters just to show how close they really were.
Chuck 07-01-2008, 07:19 AM This morning a dump truck was doing the same number for a half mile before finally passing.
93Hatch 07-01-2008, 08:41 AM Auston I have a similar phone, only mine is silver! Great for snapping road pics. Good idea using the rear view mirror too. I never could get a pic trying to point the pohone over my shoulder. Always got a pic of the back seat, or the headliner!

I always loved that idea, expect I would also make the ticket proportional to the income of the individual. A guy making minimum wage and driving a moped might only be fined 10/20 bucks, but if Bill Gates was driving a fully loaded semi, the fine might exceed the GNP of some countries.
kmactavi 07-01-2008, 09:31 AM Yesterday I had a transport truck honestly <2 ft from my bumper on the highway. I couldn't see ANYTHING but grill looking out my rear view mirror. I hit the gas, flashed my brake lights a few times, and pulled onto the shoulder so I wouldn't get crushed. Some professional drivers should not be on the road, period.

kayasbluetaco 07-01-2008, 09:48 AM I have seen that view on more than one occassion... even before HM-ing... some of those guys will tail you at 70 +! Not sure what the point is... fortunately, I think MOST semi drivers aren't idiots... but a with anything, it takes a handful of jerks to make you wary of them all...
Wish I got a shot of the semi driver weaving lanes (not intentionally) to pass him and see him on his handheld cell phone doing about 70... (I wasn't driving :P) )
HemiSync 07-01-2008, 02:37 PM I think the picture through the rear view is self-explanatory?
Yeah! I think it is, you were obviously impeding the flow of traffic! :p
I actually deleted a pic I had a few weeks ago because the truck's grill was so far up my butt that you couldn't tell what I was taking a picture of.
Jonez33 07-01-2008, 02:43 PM .....is that a half pink razor?
applemac*fit 07-01-2008, 04:00 PM Nice picture! My phone doesn't take that nice of quality of photos
fixedintime 07-01-2008, 05:52 PM Don't feel too bad, I had a police car pull out in front of me today - no sirens before or after and he actually waited until a car passed going the other way and wanted to get in the flow between him and the car behind him, so he pulls out in front of me. I had to break hard to miss him. If I hadn't been doing the speed limit I likely would have hit him.
lamebums 07-01-2008, 07:42 PM .....is that a half pink razor?
All pink with a blue cover. The silver ones were sold out and weren't due in another 2 weeks. At the time my old phone was damaged and couldn't hold a charge so I had a day or two at most. The blue cover was fine until one day I dropped the phone and the bottom half popped off and went straight into the sewer. :(
Nice picture! My phone doesn't take that nice of quality of photos
I got really lucky. :o I have to hold it really steady or the picture quality is horrendous. Which, I might add, is quite a challenge with 55 PSI in the tires. LOL
ILAveo 07-01-2008, 10:33 PM Yikes, you'd be a jerk too if you had to drive a truck that ugly. Seriously, IMO that is one of the ugliest trucks I've seen in ages. I'm expecting the high price of diesel to weed out more of the cowboys (no offense Chuck) and high roller speeding truckers soon.
craig 07-07-2008, 03:06 PM Doesn't this guy realize the dangers of close-in drafting? ;)
