"On our trip with Moot, he averaged 98 miles a gallon." (http://kstp.com/article/stories/S473253.shtml)

As most Minnesotans are getting squeezed at the gas pumps, there is a growing number of drivers who are squeezing every last drop out of their car.

You won’t find Kevin Moot in the fast lane.

"A hypermiler is someone who basically tries to maximize their efficiency of their vehicle," Moot explained.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS tagged along with the self-proclaimed hypermiler on his afternoon commute from Plymouth to Bloomington.

"I've been getting 60, 70, even 80 miles per gallon," Moot said.

Along with typical gas-saving methods like keeping his tire pressure high, keeping windows up and the air conditioner off, hypermilers try to stay in constant motion, using the brake as little as possible.

And when a hypermiler comes to a stop sign, the engine goes off.

"The car is off, we're not idling. You want to avoid idling at all cost," said Moot… http://kstp.com/article/stories/S473253.shtml

Hmmm... This isn't Sean, but he's the only Insight that I'm seeing in Minneapolis on the map.

Good article though.

I hope she meant "stop light." I don't usually idle too long at stop signs.

Not to Hi-Jack the thread. Just out of curiosity I went to Auto Trader and did a search on Insight's. Went out 500 miles and found two for sale. One came with no price with 90K plus miles, the other with high sixties with a new battery pack and a price north of $14K.

Talk about a market that just dried up on for sale Insight's.
I saw one at an used car lot about nine months ago for $5,995.

An Open Letter To Honda:

We need the Insight back! We needed it yesterday!

Why O Why did they EVER stop production?? Toyota saw the writing on the wall. For the last few years our direction has been unmistakeable.

Maybe, just maybe, they were "encouraged" to drop it from the BIG 1/.333. Maybe the oil industry frowned on putting a car like that in our hands. It could damage profits, ya know!

One never knows the evil that lurks in the shadows!

Yes, prices for Insights have roughly doubled over the last 12 months. A used 06 Insight just sold on Ebay for $26,000. The new price was probably around $19,000 which was probably deeply discounted as you could barely give Insights away in 2006. I was lucky enough to find mine last October at a very fair price. My only concern, if it was wrecked my insurance would only cover book value and not replacement cost.

If Honda had only continued Insight production a few more years.
