View Full Version : Which gas do you use.. supamonkey56 06-18-2008, 05:56 AM I use ONLY Shell's premium unleaded. i heard that it provides the best Fe for cars. But what do you use..?:Banane32: rdprice64 06-18-2008, 07:09 AM There are many Shell users here. Also check out the What gas "brand" do you use? (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8847) thread. abcdpeterson 06-18-2008, 08:00 AM I think the station can make a HUGE difference. I always track what station I filled up at. There are some stations always trying to be the low price stations. I have been finding these Budget stations are usually NOT a deal when you find your paying more per mile due to the decreased performance of the low quality fuel. I try and use Holiday or BP. I usually find myself at Holiday pumps. They are usually one of the lower priced station. For performance, Holiday has never given me a bad tank of gas, and I feel better using there “Blue Planet” gas. BP is normally a bit more expensive, but with higher performance the cost per mile will normally more then make up for the higher per gallon price. Before I started hypermiling . With BP-Amoco in my 91 jeep I was getting 1.5-2 MPG better then other stations in this area (Twin cities MN) BP is also running better in my Vibe, but I have not had a chance compare it enough to report how much. (I am guessing at least 1.5) Interestingly enough BP in my Mazda Tribute makes only a tiny difference. Chuck 06-18-2008, 08:02 AM Not many cars these days need premium...check your driver's manual. If it's not required, you just saved 18 or 20 cents a gallon. PaleMelanesian 06-18-2008, 08:17 AM He's right. It's been tested, and in some cases premium actually gives worse mileage. kayasbluetaco 06-18-2008, 08:19 AM No name regular... One is Turkey Hill, and the other one is Petrolium 19... I have had NO problems with their fuel whatsoever... The Petrolium 19 I don't use right now because they have the E10 crap... that one is in NJ, but you can still buy gas for 3.89! A024523 06-18-2008, 10:57 AM but you can still buy gas for 3.89! You are fortunate, the cheapest gas I can find near my commute is $4.55, thanks to special fuel formulation requirements in California (the regulate-everything state). So I always seek the cheapest gas via these sites: http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx http://www.gasbuddy.com/ kayasbluetaco 06-18-2008, 11:22 AM You are fortunate, the cheapest gas I can find near my commute is $4.55, thanks to special fuel formulation requirements in California (the regulate-everything state). So I always seek the cheapest gas via these sites: http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx http://www.gasbuddy.com/ I forgot to mention, it is a "CASH ONLY" price. If you use a CC then look for $4.00 (maybe it's like $3.99) I don't get it there any more though because of the ethanol, and the fact I never ever have cash on me :( When they still took CC's they were one of the cheapest. To keep it cheap, they got rid of CC's... I need to start carrying cash :) PA is well over $4.00 now though, no E10... in NJ they do some reformualtion crap... not quite sure what that means, but it definitely tanks FE... A024523 06-18-2008, 11:32 AM I forgot to mention, it is a "CASH ONLY" price. If you use a CC then look for $4.00 Yeah, only a few here raise the price for plastic, but that may change soon. I read in the paper that gas stations are taking a hit since they pay a fee on a percentage of the charge, which is more per fill-up. Ophbalance 06-18-2008, 09:43 PM The Lexus will ping merry hell if you don't use premium. My in laws have a 98 ES300, and it does not do well on anything but premium. It has a fairly large tank though, and gets fairly good mileage up on the highway. They made it from Schuylkill Haven, PA to Buffalo, NY on the same tank. My Elantra needed a fillup on the way in. Course, we were moving at well above the posted limit ;). They manged to get over 500 miles on that tank. warthog1984 06-18-2008, 10:04 PM Whatever's cheapest. Woodman's is still 3.999 in N. Aurora (cash only), but their pumps are at least $.50-$1.00 off so its a net loss. 99metro 06-19-2008, 06:34 AM I was using 85 octane (regular) mainly due to the price. I found 87 octane (mid-grade here) to increase mileage enough to actually save me $3.00 per tankful vice the 85. I haven't gone the 89 or 91 (premium) route yet. I think some of these stations are "watering down" their tanks. I found a station that gives me consistantly good economy with their 87. Other stations I have used I found that their 87 was running more like 85 and I was losing MPG. I keep to my good station with what I know is good gas. lamebums 06-19-2008, 11:29 PM ExxonMobil only at this point. Well, let me clarify - any station that still has straight gas. I avoid E10 if I can help it at all. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
