I was wondering if anyone out there has a 1996 Toyota Tercel DX 1.5L 16V DOHC 5 Speed Maunal. If so what kind of miliage are you getting with or without the scangauge and hypermiling?

Thanks.

Mine is somewhat related - 1996 1.6L SOHC 5-sp, although a Honda, with similar mileage ratings. See below for the mileage. It's got good potential. Also, see this car:

dang that's good mpg, how are you doing it. Do you have a scan gauge?

Welcome Scott! I'm glad to see another Tercel driver, as there are not many of us here. I like driving it more than my wife's civic. I used to get 30-33 MPG with aggressive speedy driving. Fast-forward just a few months, and my last two tanks have been 50 MPG, which is over $100 savings per month. I don't have a scan guage, but do the following: slow acceleration, under the speed limit, tires at 44 PSI, ICE off at red lights, DWL, DWB, NICE-on coasting on highway, FAS at lower speeds, pulse and glide, avoid running the A/C. And mine is an auto tranny, so you have more potential to exceed my number with your manual transmission, especially if you purchase a scan guage. Good luck!

Yes, I have a Scangauge. I couldn't do anything close to this without it.

Read the Beating the EPA (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1510) article. I use all of those techniques, except close drafting.
