NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Slow and steady - and poor gas mileage - ruled the day when North Brunswick police captured a speeding Lamborghini similar to the one pictured above.

An officer gave chase after clocking the 2006 V-Ten Gallardo going 85 miles per hour on Route 1 yesterday.

The sports car pulled away as the officer's Ford Crown Victoria patrol car reached 100 miles per hour. That's when the officer broke off the chase and broadcast a description of the car with Massachusetts license plates.

Police pounced when the driver of the $175,000 sports car made a pit stop to buy gasoline in Edison seven minutes later.

Gianluca Siciliano is held on ten-thousand dollars bail, charged with eluding police. The 38-year-old is from Italy.

The Environmental Protection Agency says the Gallardo has a top speed of 196 miles per hour and gets 17 miles to the gallon on highways.

Ugh. Both that and the picture in the original article are V12 Diablos - a wholely different car. They may as well have just posted a Toyota MR2, I guess, not like journalists care about accuracy more than sensationalism.

Hi Brandon:

___An MR2 is similar to a Lamborghini anything? I have a Ford - Gallardo P/U to sell to you for maybe 1/20 the price you can buy a Countach for from your local Lamborghini dealership if you would like! Remind me to remove the debris from the back before you pick it up though ;)

___Good Luck

But not at the same time, I reckon.

Hang on, I'm still working to get my sarcasm icon out from wherever it was hiding when I posted my original message.

As for the above post, yeah probably not. They never seem to post that information, although it would be very handy to Germans most likely. I know the Bugatti Veyron was published as getting about 2.5mpg or so at top speed, which means when topped out (at 230mph) it would run for about 15 minutes before a full tank of gas would run dry. Of course, you'd cover about 60 miles in the process, which is impressive for 15 minutes, but yeah - sports car fuel efficiency at high speed is quite low. :)
