Hey guys!

I learned about hypermiling from a friend and we both decided to see who could get better mileage. I am having a lot of fun doing it! I drive a 1990 Mazda Protege 5-speed manual, so FAS-ing is easy and since i drive around in town a lot i have been getting pretty good mileage. Haven't gotten the final results in but i'm expecting around 45 mpg or better on my first tank :D. Looking forward to keeping it up and saving some gas in the future!

Welcome !

keep us posted with your results - you'll get great feedback from others with Protege's

don't forget to pump up your tires to max sidewall (worth 5 - 10% extra)

43 mpg on my first tank! I am pretty pleased with that considering my last one before (mostly city/suburban) was about 29. Any chance I can get it over 50 average?

Thanks! I did have one question, however. Since it is such an old car, I know the SG won't work. What kind of things can those of us with old cars use? I know our 1992 Grand Caravan has a console built in to the car that shows instant and per tank mileage. Anything like that that you can add on to any older car?

Search the forums for "SuperMID" -- it is built by our very own member named Yoshi. You can send him a PM directly for more info if you are interested.
