The Insight dashboard is super.

To show how spoiled I am, I've come up with ideas to improve it. Two things prompted this. One is my Garmond runners's GPS watch. You can set a range for running speed or heartbeat range and it will beep if you are out of that range.
That would be a cool feature for a dashboard.

The other thing is someone PMed me about gentle vs. hard hybrid acceleration - which is more FE? My Insight experience is even if you have driven 800 miles on a trip, a 20-30 second acceleration that's fairly hard will knock down your mpg. :( It would be cool to have another bar graph of instant fuel consumption (some of you will tell me it kind of does that already)

Before I describe my dream dashboard, I have ScanGage I. Sadly, the Insight's lean burn is unaccouted for so it's mpg readout is bogus - I assume the same for gallons consumed per hour. :( If you convert from English (Imperial) to metric, that is sort of a instant fuel consumption graph.

Dream Dashboard

Like the 2006 HCH, it would have an upper level dash that would effectively be like projection on the windshield straight ahead with shade from the sun. This is where the most important readouts such as speed would be displayed
The lower level of the dash is where the conventional dashboard is. It would be very customizable like a Windows desktop.
ScanGage information could go on the lower dash
Beep/Flash options: if certain parameters are exceeded the dash beeps and/or flashes. An example would be exceeding a set speed. Another would be fuel consumption to monitor accelerations.
Multiple trip gages
Personal trip gages. Extra keys could be issued so car could distinguish between husband, wife, son, etc...

Hi Chuck:

___Well, here is something you might be interested in? I do not know if you remember me posting these photos of the Mercury Meta-One - Diesel HEV Concept from last year (built from the Ford Freestyle platform) but the pics and the car is definitely worth another look.

___Here are the 3 dashes in the same vehicle and they are/were user customizable from FCD and speedo location to your MP3 play lists!

___I have a lot more to say about that Ford concept (if you are willing to listen ;)) as well as a pic of the exterior and under carriage (if I can find them?) when I get back from the movies with my son later this afternoon …

___Good Luck

Some may already know this, but I tend to neglect some parts of the forum - my bad.

The advantages of a hyperanalyzing dash would be to get an early warning of a problem such as an O2 sensor. It also might determine why one run is signifantly a lot different from the norm. There are so many variable in a work commute Just to name a few...

average speed
outdoor temperature
number of stops and accelerations
air pressure in tire
mechanical condition of vehicle
weather conditions such as wind, rain, esp. ice and snow, maybe even the humidity
