2009 European and Asian production version of the Ford Fiesta 5-door hatch

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. plans to build its new subcompact Fiesta in Mexico for sale in the U.S., a person familiar with Ford's production plans said Thursday.

The person asked for anonymity because Ford wasn't expected to make the announcement until Friday.

The decision is a blow to unionized U.S. plants. Earlier this year, United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger said the union would try to convince Ford that its U.S. plants were competitive enough that the automaker could make money building its smallest cars in the U.S. Currently, all subcompacts sold in the U.S. are built overseas, he said… http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/29/autos/ford_fiesta.ap/index.htm?postversion=2008052919

3 and 5-door versions for them, 4-door for us. Europe will receive the diesel and gasoline 4-cylinder variants. US will receive a 4-cylinder gasoline variant of unknown capacity or capability. Europe will receive the Fiesta this year, US in late 2009 as a 2010.

I can not understand why they would not bring the hatchback to the US. They are highly desireable in a small car. They need to get a Diesel in it that can pass the US regs. as well. The US car companies move so slowly sometimes.

The biggest reason is profit margin. They make more in Mexico having it built there than the US. Ford's former CEO just about ran it in the ground (yet to be determind) so they really can not afford to build it here.

Note the word "including" in the article.

Other sources have reported that the North American market will be receiving hatchbacks. Last I heard a 5-door was in the works, but no definitive decision on a 3-door. This far out, take any actual product release information with a grain of salt.

Oh Boy!!

Ford is bringing in to this country one of those high MPG European diesels that have been saving drivers from bankruptcy for years!

Wrong, kimosabbe! !

The article says, "Europe will receive the diesel and gasoline 4-cylinder variants. US will receive a 4-cylinder gasoline variant of unknown capacity or capability".

I know the capability and capacity we will get.

It's "business as usual" at Ford (and GM & Chrysler).

For many years I have been eagerly awaiting a diesel revival in the US. But sadly, under current market circumstances, its looking like it might be a very hard sell to a lot of people.

The EPA aka BIG OIL is to blame alot of why we do not have diesels here in the states. As far as "business as usual" please leave Chrysler out of that until they have had a chance to turn the company around. It has not even been a year since Cerbius took over the helm.

I'll never buy ford again.

First post makes your point.
2nd post is attention seeking.
3rd post is tiresome.

I suggest you make your next car a Camry. The 2011 was rated as the most American car.

OK, that got too tiresome. Repetition, stirring, banned.
