I'm a new member and have been trying out these techniques for just a couple of weeks. I recently (and finally) sold my F-150 (best was 15mpg) and have been driving a 1997 S-10. So far, I've bested 23mpg. Considering what I had before, I'm thrilled! But, it appears I can get better and it's been kind of a game for me commuting back and forth to work (80 miles round trip) just to see what my mpg will be at the end of the week.
I'm curious for any other members out there that do not have a new hybrid car. Just how well do these techniques work for an older truck that I'm driving? Is it possible to get 35 mpg, or better? Even if I only get 26 or 28mpgs, I'm still saving money, but was just curious about any comments.
I am looking at buying the scan gauge, that looks to be very beneficial to see where I'm getting the best mpg and keeping track of my rpms.
Thanks for any input!

Just curious if you are hauling anything on your 80 mile RT commute.

Only my big behind, which my wife says is a load.

No, I have a spare tire that I keep in the bed, only because the latch that used to hold it is broken. But there is nothing heavy that I keep in the truck.
I didn't mention earlier, but this is the vortec 4.3L V-6, automatic transmission.

Wayne has posted some very good numbers for his Ranger P/U, some of which (I think) was towing a landscaping trailer at the time...
