Q: How much did it cost to fill that 26-gallon tank in 2003? (It's $104 now)

26-gallons is the tank size of many SUVs


A more fightening question is: "How much will it cost in 2013?"

26 gallons?! That's twice the size of the tank in most of the cars I've owned. Yikes.

The answer: $30

My state agency recently retired an 01 Suburban with either a 38 or 44 gallon fuel tank. They are going to replace it with a Expedition XLT 4x4.

A better comparison would be a "fuel cost per mile" or fcpm. My fcpm for the
Insight $3.43 /97.2 MPG =$0.035
VW TDI $4.65 / 48.4 MPG = $0.096
Suburban $3.43 / 11 MPG = $0.31

This puts us all on the same page. If we use cost per tank, all tanks aren't the same, miles driven in a week aren't the same, fuel type cost aren't the same. If we use fcpm we are all using the same standard.....Louis
