Last month I entered my car in a mileage contest over here:
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=1341029#post1341029
(Scroll up to see the board)

So far nobody has said anything contrary, and have been very civil.
But still I feel somewhat bad, like I'm "crashing" their board and "in their face" which is not my intent.
I'll refuel again 1-2 days from now and likely mid 800 miles behind it.

Apparently they've had some very rude hybrid drivers stirring up trouble over there and I've been as friendly as possible.
We've had some respectible MPG technique discussions and so far have been a good community.
I visit there often but don't participate very much in their club.
(I would suppose is why few diesel drivers are active over at the GH "club")
Both great communities but both very different.

What would you do?

It's a shame to have infighting between people that drive fuel-efficient vehicles:

hybrids
diesels
older economy carsBottom line is all of the above is a good thing, and they will improve with technological advances.

Their numbers are pretty good; several of them(only about 10-15 total) are over 50 mpg. All the hiugh numbers are 5 speed manuals.
What is that 'other' type of trans I see listed-an auto shifting manual with no fluid coupleing, or is it just an automatic that can be "shifted' manually?. The numbers for it are closer to the auto numbers than manual numbers.
Someone should have cited their number during the "TDI Jetta Kills Prius in Autoweek hy test" discussion on the other forum. It became close to nasty with the TDI fans citing it,and the Prius's potential high speed mpg limitations. Prius partisans cited their sources of course.A quick eyeballing looks like these guys are getting ~45mpg. They are roughly in 2003 Prius territory-pretty good considering the VW isn't the latest word in Euro diesels. Some of these are Golfs-lighter than Jettas. Thanks,Charlie
PS I would love to get one of those stubby TDI Euro minivans like the Zafira. It is wider and taller than a Prius and 8 passengers-but smallish, not USA sized passengers. It would have been a great alternative to the Pilot for long distance USA type road trips.Oh well, soon maybe. If Honda "Diesels" the Pilot it will get close to 30 mpg at 60 mph.The current AWD Pilot is good for 25mpg at 63-65, and 21mpg at 75+.
