I couldn't resist the title of this thread!;)

Survey: Women Attracted by Fuel Efficiency

Posted: May. 09, 2008 10:05 a.m.

Motor Trend reports that "getting a Prius will help a man's fortunes with women more than a Porsche," according to the results of a new survey. The collegiate engineering competition Challenge X conducted a recent survey of "U.S. consumers, ages 18 or older, who plan to purchase or lease a car in the next two years." Among the conclusions, 88 percent of women surveyed "reported that they'd prefer to talk to a man with a new fuel-efficient car than a new sports car."

Really? That wasn't our experience in college. One staffer here had a roommate with a Toyota Tercel who didn't go on a date in four years. You mean his car wasn't the problem?

We can see it now -- “Hey, baby -- wanna see my mileage book? We can go back to my place and go through my gas receipts.”

May we should consider a new Smart Fortwo. It gets up to 41 mpg on the highway.

But wait...no backseat.

In a press release, the organization continued, "Eighty percent of American car buyers would find someone with the latest model fuel-efficient car more interesting to talk to at a party than someone with the latest model sports car." Automakers might want to put more energy into hybrid design, too, since "more than one in three Americans (36 percent) who are on the fence about buying a hybrid vehicle say the tipping point to seriously consider the purchase would be if gas prices rose to $4 a gallon." A few analysts this week have said that $7 a gallon is possible in the next two years.:flag:

Yep, the same ones that said we would see $3.50 a gallon by Memorial Day.:(

The kind of women (err...woman, singular ;) ) that I go for aren't (dammit...isn't) stupid. Fast cars and a tough guy act don't impress that kind. You may as well stand up and scream "Hey, I'm compensating for something and I'm too stupid not to advertise it!" Some giggle in an ambiguous way but the game's over, what you've heard is just the buzzer.

Oh, and a smooooth driving style has never hurt anybody, either ;) .

"Eighty percent of American car buyers would find someone with the latest model fuel-efficient car more interesting to talk to at a party than someone with the latest model sports car."

That my friends, is called damning with faint praise.

In pairings, the only thing that sports cars beat out are:

"Eighty percent of American car buyers would find someone with the latest model sports car more interesting to talk to at a party than someone reciting Pi to 1,000 digits."
