Does anyone have a good source for a well-to-wheel emissions analysis? I'd really like one with a North American focus which includes gasoline, hybrid, and diesel vehicles if possible. I already have one report from 2005 from Argonne labs which is quite thorough but, I'd like another for comparison to confirm or question the findings of the report I have now. A newer one would also be great. Thanks for your help.
Ahh my favorite subject...
The official numbers will be in the GREET reports. Here's one sample report here, but there are VOLUMES more GREET data to read through.

Files I've released on the subject:
MPGge Calculator (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=28)
To summarize my findings. 80 MPG is more efficient than 200 Wh/mi, but that is based on regional (Texas) grids. Clean grids like California greatly favor EVs in GHG comparisons. Other super dirty grids greatly favor gas powered cars in GHG compares.

Great Dan, thanks a lot! That really helps and will keep me busy for a while.

To summarize my findings. 80 MPG is more efficient than 200 Wh/mi, but that is based on regional (Texas) grids.I'll append that statement with this one.
In Houston, 80 MPG is better than 200 Wh/mi. In the US, 80 MPG is better than 300 Wh/mi.
Houston gas to electricity ratio is 1 Gal = 14.40 kWh
Texas gas to electricity ratio is 1 Gal = 16.25 kWh
US gas to electricity ratio is 1 Gal = 23.57 kWh
*based on MPGge calculator

Its not really that complex - you can take as a reasonable assumption the cost of a car as representing the original energy inputs; its accurate within 10-15%.
The rest is simple consumption economics with a recycle at the end.

Hi Vooch, I think you might be mistaking well to wheels with something like dust-to-dust. Well to wheels conisiders all emissions related with making a vehicle move, including fuel production and transportation. For example, hydrogen looks pretty good for tank to wheels emissions, but well to wheels makes it look much different.
