This is a great site for travelers: http://www.onebag.com
Shows you how to select a good bag, what to carry, how to pack, etc. one carry-on bag.
Sort of like hypermiling with luggage. Great idea!!

:)
Let me guess. I'm liberal, want a Prius, and drink Fair Trade coffee.
Now do I really have to answer that?? LOL!

I went to one bag a while back, but I learned to pack light in boy scouts. Its amazing what you'll do to save yourself some back pain over a 20+ mile a day hiking/camping trip.
Now if only they would use larger regional planes, so I could actually stow my luggage in the overhead, I would get on and off the plane much faster.

I never learned in Boy Scouts what I read a while back the things some extreme backpackers do to save weight. Things like sawing off half (or more) of their toothbrush handles and cutting labels out of clothes. Kinda like some of the things hypermilers do to save a few 100ths of an ounce of gas.;)
Des, thanks for the link. I'm flying to Las Vegas next month, and I'm sure I'll make good use of it.

Uh oh, just don't tell her who gave you this idea!!
But I'm sending the link to my sister, who never travels with less than 4 suitcases, etc etc.
BTW, I know a lot about (but don't know any personally) extra lighters in backpacking, as I hike and read some hiking forums.
There ultra light ways have permeated down to other backpackers too. People tend to want to know now which item is lighter, even if they don't go to quite the extremes.
The idea of going on one suitcase that could be carried on is really appealing to me. Not sure if it is all so doable for everybody though. When I go to St. Louis, I don't really want to hand launder my clothes when it is easy enough to put them in the washer.
But the cases he talks of do not look like ones where you always have a washer and dryer (even a Laundromat).
