New guy here, in Athens, Ohio. Just picked up an '08 Vibe, automatic. First short trip (200 miles) managed 36.7mpg, getting around 33.4 in the hills to and from work. Ready to learn the ways to more mpg.

Welcome to CleanMPG. I always thought the vibe would be a good family car if I could just keep my 3 boys from pestering each other.

Eric, I think Vibe/Matrix would make a nice family car. It allegedly seats 5, but I wouldn't try to put 3 adults in the back seat if I could avoid it. Three kids would fit in the back seat with room for lots of groceries & stuff in the cargo area. Under the old EPA numbers, my Vibe [MT] is rated 30/36 & 33mpg combined.

It takes me at least 3-4 wks to get thru a tank & I hope to pull up the numbers seen below when I buy gas this week. I have a short, wicked commute with lots of stop signs, traffic lights & heavy traffic. No matter what numbers I pull, I've still doubled the mpg from my previous 6 cyl, 4.3l engine truck. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Welcome! If you ask a lot of questions of the members, practice, and are patient, you will learn a lot and get good or great gas mileage.

___Increasing ones FE is a challenge but one I am sure you will discover to be much more fun than stressful after your tanks start climbing into the low 40’s with a little more practice.

___As I tell a lot of people, “Just trust me” that the ever increasing numbers will apparently come out of nowhere as you laugh all the way to the bank! Or at least flatten your weekly payment to the local gas station of your choice :rolleyes:

Wayne, Thanks, I fantasize low 40's, but w/ the hills and an automatic I'm not sure. As to the name, it's motorcycling (2000 Triumph Sprint RS, 44mpg city, 52+mpg @ 75-90mph highway).
