There is a DIY electric Rabbit on the craigslist in New Orleans. The guy wants $6000-sounds like he knows what he is doing.Claims to have gotten 76 miles on a single charge"with special driving techniques". 4-10 hour charge time-108 volts-
0-60 10 seconds-awfully fast I think-

Worth a look for the really committed maybe.Says the price is FIRM-who knows?

There is a guy in eastern Kansas that I saw a few weeks ago that converts cars for about $5k. I look for the site and post it if I see it.

5 grand? I'm only aware of 2-3 companies in the whole country doing conversions, and they're mostly $10-12k and up. And that's for DC, lead-acid. I'm not sure $5k will cover parts. $5k over and above parts cost would be believable, though -- and reasonable.

$5000 seems very reasonable-maybe too reasonable? 20 car batteries, or deep cycle batteries are at least $1200 by themselves.Doesn't leave much for the motor/controls/and the actual installation/modification. Seems like it would take 100+ hours to do the work?? It probably takes a good mechanic at least 8 hours just to pull and engine/trans?

The $6000 is a little bit tempting, but it is a one off-if it breaks you will be on your own. There is a beat up Metro(no ac POS but it runs) I'm eyeing that is more in my $2000 price range.I could quit driving the Suburban-except as needed) if I got the Metro

BESTMAPMAN-see if you can find that link-lotta' tinkerers in Kansas-farmers repairing machinery get good at DIY stuff.

This is one of the sites (http://www.electroauto.com/gallery/bug-1.shtml) that I had previously seen, but not the one I was thinking of. I will keep looking.
