What if high food prices puts another Hugo Chavez in Mexico -the Taliban in Pakistan? - Ed
Mexico City - If you’re seeing your grocery bill go up, you’re not alone.
From subsistence farmers eating rice in Ecuador to gourmets feasting on escargot in France, consumers worldwide face rising food prices in what analysts call a perfect storm of conditions. Freak weather is a factor. But so are dramatic changes in the global economy, including higher oil prices, lower food reserves and growing consumer demand in China and India.
The world’s poorest nations still harbor the greatest hunger risk. Clashes over bread in Egypt killed at least two people last week, and similar food riots broke out in Burkina Faso and Cameroon this month… http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23781864/page/2/
makes the garden more than just a hobby! :)
its helping prevent wars over food?!!?!?!:)!?!?!??!
Chuck 03-24-2008, 08:54 PM If you get my drift, corn ethanol could hurt instead of help our national security. :(
Mike T 03-24-2008, 09:14 PM Viva la Revolucion!
Robert Lastick 03-25-2008, 10:24 AM I am sure that 100 years from now history is still going to be learning more and more about how the conspiracy perpetuated by the Auto/Oil cartel here in America for the last 25 - 30 years, has effected the world, and life on this planet.
I think that history will find the Auto/Oil cartel and its money grubbing special interest and lobbying criminals, aided and abetted by governmental corruption, denied our need to move toward energy efficiency in the 70's and resulted in this now intolerable oil dependency, THE CURSE that most all subsequent evil ( food, wars, undermining of America, etc) will spring from.
I think we are just beginning to see and understand the tip of this monstrous iceberg of greed and immorality.
Earthling 03-25-2008, 12:03 PM I see the idiotic push for ethanol to be the biggest example of greed and immorality.
As I've said before, people around the world will go hungry because fat-ass Americans have agreed to feed their SUV's a huge portion of our corn crop. What a disgrace!

toastblows 03-25-2008, 01:08 PM I hope it becomes known...which it isnt...that Haliburton was contracted for $300+ million to draw up plans, scope locations, and basically get ready to construct massive holding camps for illegal immigrants from central america (mexico mainly) in response to the collapse of Mexico's oil industry, and following riots/oil and food shortages, and mass exodus to the U.S. as a result.
To think the taxpayers have funded studies and contracts like this just validates stories like the one posted here. :(
lyekka 03-25-2008, 07:04 PM It sounds to me that big agribusiness is getting to be like big oil. Putting profits in front of everything else. They should be putting resources towards cellulosic ethanol and leave corn for food.
Hi All:
___I am sure not myself tonight but I have to side with the oil/food companies here. A Government’s job is to protect the health and well being of its citizenry but that does not mean controlling the price of basic food stuffs as a black market will eventually take over due to the mess of supply and demand being distorted with price controls. Corn doubled. If Mexico is not going to buy it, the EU will. If you produce a product, you should receive the $’s it goes for and not be held to some lower amount by government mandate. On the same side of the coin, a floor should not be in place but that one is an entirely whole different animal wrt Cheese, milk and crop subsidies to grow and not to grow over the past 50 years.
___I know little about most of the above so take it as a simple rant :)
___Good Luck
___Wayne
