A 2003 HCH appears to be the world record holder for highest mileage ever achieved in a hybrid vehicle!
Honda launched a new web site this past November allowing Honda owners to post their vehicles high mileage longevity and provide detail as to how the feats were accomplished.
What is the sites mission? Imagine driving 100,000 miles – Four times around the circumference of the globe. This is the minimum number of miles needed to be part of Honda's new "Honda Mile Makers" site.
The site caters to owners of Honda vehicles that have traveled beyond the magic 100,000 mile barrier while posting their unique stories, photos of their Honda’s, and reading about other high mileage Honda success stories. Honda Mile Makers espouses recognition of the passion, inspiration and dedication of Honda owners and the loyalty, durability and reliability of their Hondas driven.
"It's a great place for Honda owners to show off their accomplishments and exchange stories," said Karen Kim of Honda's Interactive Marketing department, who worked on creating the site. "A lot of the entries are very heart warming and a true testament to Honda's reliability and durability."
The most interesting entry and this story's premise came about from a single post by Sledge entitled “HCH-I - 595,000 miles! (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8009)”.
Louis C., an independent contractor from Las Vegas, NV drives his HCH-I 10,000 miles a month. He never expected his car to make it past the half-million mile mark.
“I'm at my dealer getting an oil change. I never expected this car to go this many miles. The mileage today is 595,000. I drive it approx. 10000 miles per month as an independent courier out of Las Vegas. The mileage is 99% highway miles. Yesterday I squeezed 48 mpg out of it doing 65 mph most of the day without the a/c on. The weather has been really nice here. I have replaced the IMA battery once. Other than that it's been routine maintenance only at my dealer. I love this car.”
Another owner, Jeff S. from Greensboro, NC drives a 92 Civic VX w/ 323,000 on the odomter.
"The most impressive fuel mileage ever..."
“I saw an ad in a magazine in late 1991...a new model Honda that boasted about its fuel mileage. I test drove a red Civic VX in February 1992, and came home with it that day. On the very first long road trip I took, the car got 53 mpg over 1000+ miles of driving. That was 15 years ago, and the car still gets 43 mpg per tank of gas. I cannot think of anything else to write at the moment in praise of this car, and I don't have any specific photos...yet. She needs a paint job and some TLC, but I plan on giving her to my son when he turns 16 in two years. Thanks Honda for proving that an impressive car doesn't need to be big or fast or run on some funky kind of fuel!”
Let us all hope all these “High Miler” drivers are hypermiling and with the results posted, some are doing pretty well.
