Both the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid and non-hybrid Civic had a nice showing in November. For the first time in recent memory, Civic sales totals topped the aging Corolla’s. With gasoline prices holding around the $3.00 mark, hybrids of all types (excepting the slowly disappearing AH inventory) did well in November.
The Toyota Prius had another stellar month with a 109% increase over Nov. of 2006 sales. The Toyota Camry Hybrid reported sales of 5,118, up 65.1% from the year ago monthly comparison period. The FE/MMH twins' had their best Nov. yet with 2,224 units leaving dealership lots, up a very healthy 49.9% vs. the year ago period. The new 08 HiHy also surprised with 2,557 units, up a startling 54.6%. The Lexus RX 400h hybrid reported sales of 1,674 units for the month, up 26.1% vs. November of last year. The Honda Accord Hybrid Nov. 07 sales of 204 continue to fall as dealership inventories dwindle.
For fuel efficient non-hybrid automobiles, the 2008 Honda Civic led all sales with 25,141 units sold, for an increase of 24.8% vs. Nov. of 06. The perennial leading Corolla’s sales are slowing with 25,012 units sold during the month, a decline of 7.4% from the year-ago period. The Toyota Yaris subcompact posted another decline as well with November sales totaling 5,448, a drop of 8.2% from the same period a year ago.
Overall sales YTD (year to date) of the “Big 7” Hybrids shows an increase of 34.5% vs. last year's January through November sales period. The Prius-II was by far the largest contributor to that increase with its own 70.4% sales rise YTD.
Now that the 2008 HCH-II sunset clause has been evoked, you have until Dec. 31, to purchase and collect the full $2,100 Federal tax credit (contingent upon eligibility requirements).
