The 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid is a roomy and comfortable small-family sport utility with excellent fuel economy afforded by the gasoline-electric hybrid power system. (http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/columnists/gcwilliams/stories/MYSA051807.01G.OnTheRoad.e15356.html)

With gasoline prices jumping to record levels, many of us are rethinking our vehicle needs and wondering whether we can afford family-size SUVs for everyday use.

The new crossover models offer better fuel-efficiency choices than the traditional truck-based SUVs. But an even better choice might be one of the new gasoline-electric hybrid models.

And of those, perhaps the most practical are the two that Ford Motor Co. offers — the Ford Escape and the Mercury Mariner.

These hybrids have been on the market for a couple of years and have been selling well.

For 2008, though, they have been updated significantly, with new, more compelling styling and interiors, as well as some tweaks that make the hybrid drive system even better.

For this report, we tested the Escape Hybrid two-wheel-drive model (base price $25,075 plus $655 freight). Even with all of the changes, Ford actually lowered the price from last year's base of $25,700.

This vehicle seats five adults comfortably and has room for plenty of luggage behind the second seat … http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/columnists/gcwilliams/stories/MYSA051807.01G.OnTheRoad.e15356.html

My oldest daughter insists on a larger vehicle for image purposes. She lives in Overland Park, KS, (very near KC) and prefers domestic vehicles, so maybe that photo with the Kansas City Assembly Plant might encourage her to buy a FEH.

I really like it when the full news article was included on cleanmpg. Why the recent move to abbreviated articles?

Most likely to keep us on the right side of copyright laws. Copying and pasting the whole article is shady territory, but giving a little snippet and the link is completely kosher.

Man, I can't wait until owning a large vehicle has the opposite effect on one's "image." Getting laughed out of town is about the only thing that reaches people sometimes. Not that I would wish that upon your oldest daughter, of course, but you know what I mean.

It's just a restyle. No mechanical difference to your trucklet.

Mechanical, probably not, but there has been some hefty software changes.

Hi Guys:

___There were some changes but I have no idea what they were … Think of how the Focus gained 3 and we probably have an answer?

85 – 07 EPA of the 08 Escape Hybrid would have been 41/32. (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/ford/t-85-07-epa-of-the-08-feh-would-have-been-4132-4403.html)

___Good Luck

I just saw a commercial today for the Ford Escape. They did include the hybrid. It's nice to see commercials taht talk about FE instead of just HP.
