What do you think of these? Are they too expensive? Do they really save electricity? How much current does a normal string of bulbs draw?

We know what you mean-- $25 for 40 bulbs sounds very expensive to us. It's hard to imagine you can save enough on electricity costs to recoup the initial investment.

We just bought some of the LED Christmas Lights at Meijer. A 35 bulb set was on sale for $4.00 . We really like them. They are smaller bulbs, but give off the same of amount of light. :flag:

Hi Ed:

___That sounds like a great price! I was looking at 50 LED bulb strings for ~ $12.00 at Target a few days before Christmas :(

I found the wattage listed on a box today as I was storing the lights. It was a 200 bulb commercial mini set listed at 75 watts.

Oh man 75 watts for 200 bulbs? I had 3 strings on my tree. I might consider looking for deals on the LED lights.

Sam's Club had LED 180 bulbs (3 x 60 bulbs per string) for $8 a box, after holiday sale.

Indoor/outdoor and cool to the touch.

We now have found a few packs of 35 c7 sized LED lights for $2.24 at Jewel Osco. . . . getting better.

Today we purchased 16 sets of the same bulbs for $1.49 a box-- only approx. 350 shopping days until Christmas. :flag:

One also might consider replacement cost factor. Our family have some strings only a few years old and only partially working for burned out bulbs. Last December my wife and I both spent about 5 hours testing bulbs and getting what we already have going.
LED strings could likely last you a lifetime as they don't burn out, and coupled with the lower operating cost I think is an outstanding deal.

Speaking of lights-
We've also replaced all our battery flashlights with those wind-up jobs. We bought 3 of them yesterday, $15 apiece at Fry's Electronics. I think that is a great deal too. (#1) the kids won't be "borrowing" the batteries from them so they'll (#2) always be ready in an emergency and won't need to (#3) buy batteries for them ever again.
