This is San Francisco and it is the first city in America that has adopted hybrid vehicles as Taxi’s.

“One of the real pleasant surprises about this vehicle is just how well this vehicle has held up,” said Paul Gillespie, taxi commissioner for San Francisco. “The durability has been just incredible.”

Paul Gillespie is also a cab driver and proud that San Francisco is the first US city to adopt hybrid vehicles for use as taxis. They use Ford Escape and Fusion hybrids. These are the same vehicles that you can buy – nothing special or unique for use as a taxi. They are putting hybrids to work as taxis to make a big difference in San Francisco.

“It’s a win-win situation. Actually it’s a win-win-win. The public benefits, the drivers benefit and the companies benefit.”

300,000 + miles with minimal repairs, 1/3 the gas consumption of the Crown Vic’s that were replaced and taxi drivers that are not only proud of their vehicles, but proud of their city. What more could you ask?

What is your Ford Story?

Nice. Those must be some pretty harsh miles in that city!

Its always good to hear that the batteries arent a problem! my 08 FEH has 120k on it, and so far we have spent less than $500 a year on repair costs.

What is your Ford Story?

Purchased my '07 FEH in March 2007. 2 oil changes in 07, so approximately $95 in maintenance over 14,000 averaging 32.2 mpg :o
Started learning how to drive it at CleanMPG in Jan 2008. 3 oil changes and 2 Battery Pack filters in 08 and 09, so approximately $180 in maintenance over 27,000 miles averaging 37.6 mpg (better, but will striving for more)

So averaging over 16,000 miles and under $100 a year in maintenance.

Over that time it has carried 5 humans & a chocolate lab, bicycles, bookcases, bales of hay & pine straw, a sod cutter, an lawn aerator, an eight foot magnolia tree, tents, canopies, and other camping paraphernalia, and in one unusual case me and 6 teenagers at the same time

I hope to get 300k miles out of mine like the SF taxis!

Mine isn't old or anything, but it has served me well.

2002 Ford Ranger. Completely basic model, with upgrades to the wheels and tint (hey, it was the one on the lot with the fewest upgrades).
96K miles so far.
I have done regular maintenance: oil, filters, etc.

Items replaced outside of regular maintenance:
Tires at 80K miles. Yeah, the originals lasted that long.
Clutch at 35K miles. The original may have been weak, but the replacement is going strong.

That's it. It got me 26-29 mpg depending on the season, but that was before I found this site. Now I'm normally geting 40 in the summer. :)

It's carried so much stuff to so many places I don't know where to start. Including about 200# of fishing equipment for the longest time.
