2010 Lexus HS 250h - $35,000 to start (including destination), 35 mpgUS combined on the 08 EPA and loaded with both luxury and technology.
Over 170,000 Lexus hybrids are already on the road and the HS 250h’s release is Lexus’ fourth (and only dedicated) following the RXh, GSh and LSh into the hybrid realm.
The HS 250h, which went on sale in August 2009, is available in standard and Premium models. Designers and engineers took the opportunity to create a truly unique luxury car that maximizes fuel economy while further shrinking its impact on the planet by using ecologically advanced materials, cleverly packaging people and components and eradicating waste wherever possible. Lexus quality, luxury and excellent fuel economy will hopefully place the HS 250h on a luxury car buyer’s short list.
Fuel Efficient Non-Hybrids
The “Big 7” fuel efficient non-hybrids August 2009 sales were up significantly from August 2008 with an increase of 44.3 percent. This months sales results were skewed by comparison to a normal sales month thanks to Cash for Clunkers (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24552) (C4C). For the year, the fuel efficient non-hybrid group is down 25.5 percent.
The compact class sales supremacy is still the highlight of the group. The Civic vs. Corolla back and forth is continuing and this month, just 233 cars separated the two for the monthly sales top honors. This is closest sales race we have seen since beginning our monthly sales results over two and a half years ago!
For August, the Civic was received by 43,294 new owners, an increase of 49.6 percent compared to August of 2008. For the year, Civic sales are off 26.7 percent.
Corolla’s August 2009 sales saw 43,061 vehicles sold, an increase of 51.9 percent vs. August of 2008. YTD, Corolla sales are off 24.1 percent.
In August, just 4,797 Toyota Yaris’ were sold, a 47.4 percent decline vs. August of 2008. For the year, sales are off 40.4 percent.
The Honda Fit had a very good month with sales up 194% vs. August 2008. A total of 13,593 vehicles were sold. For the year, sales are off 7.3% percent.
C4C did not help Mini’s sales as much as we had hoped. This month, 5,111 vehicles were sold, down 6.5 percent from to the same period a year ago. For the year, sales are off 16.4 percent.
Sales of the Chevrolet Aveo saw the first sales increase of the year with 12,733 vehicles delivered in August, up 159.0 percent vs. August of 2008. For the year, Aveo sales are off 30.6 percent.
The Smart Fortwo was received by 1,622 new owners in August, down 33.0 percent from August of 2008.
