You’d never know it from the August sales numbers, but Americans say they actually are more interested in buying cars from Detroit than from a foreign manufacturer.

A survey released today by Consumer Reports finds that " 'Buy American’ resonates strongly with new car shoppers.”

Blog_car_thinkamerican According to the national survey, 81% of respondents looking to buy a new car are likely to consider a domestic brand. The top sellers in the C4C program:
1. Toyota Corolla - Made in California (US) and Canada
2. Honda Civic - Made in Ohio (US) and Canada
3. Toyota Camry - Made in Kentucky (US)
4. Ford Focus FWD - Made in Michigan (US)
5. Hyundai Elantra - Made in Korea
6. Nissan Versa - Made in Mexico
7. Toyota Prius - Made in Japan
8. Honda Accord - Made in Ohio (US)
9. Honda Fit - Made in Japan
10. Ford Escape FWD - Made in Missouri (US)

6 out of the 10 are assembled in the USA and Canada. Only the two Fords have the US nameplate, but the top four in the list are made in North America, with components sourced mostly in North America.
