Carl Edwards behind the wheel of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid - 1,000-mile - Challenge vehicle just minutes before passing through 1,000 miles. And there was almost 1/3 of a tank of fuel still left in the tank!

Hello to all MiHG members and friends,

As we all have struggled with lower fuel economy over these cold months, we have to shout, “Hallelujah”, that the warmer days of spring are finally upon us. So now is the time to relearn your D$A skills and hone the ones that have become second nature to most of us and enjoy the halcyon days of summer. Gas prices have gone up again, so perhaps this is the time to once again reach out to your friends, relatives and associates and tell them that they do not have to pay sticker price for gas. As the economy steadies itself, learning fuel efficient driving techniques can help stretch budgets through these fuel increases. You have and solution to help them and it’s called the MiHG!

This last MiHG before the 2009 Hybridfest/Green Drive Expo event over the weekend of July 18th in Madison will focus on Ford Motor Company and its new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Wayne Gerdes and Debbie Anders will be driving to Dearborn, MI. to bring the official Ford 1,000 Mile Challenge FFH back for the Meet and press event. In addition we will be privileged to have Brian Finnerty of Ford doing a presentation on what the vision and plans are for Ford Motor Company in the coming months and years and what new vehicles we’ll be seeing. The FFH has been talked about by Wayne, Debbie and Randy Mays during our previous meets and now we’ll finally see and drive it. This fully wrapped FFH helped Wayne and his Challenge Team set the new midsize gas vehicle record of 1445.7 miles on a single tank of gas and achieved an astounding 81.5 mpg, doubling the EPA estimate for the FFH. In addition, MiHG member, Frank Irger will bring in his brand new FFH and give us his initial impressions of the vehicle. This will be exciting!

We will also discuss our upcoming MiHG Pump Your Ride to $avings event that will be held from 9 am to 3 pm at the WalMart in Pewaukee on sat June 6th. This will be an all hands on board event as we take VTP readings of customer’s vehicles and them “pump them up” to achieve safety and fuel efficient improvements. We will also hand out information on the D$A Program as well. This will be the first time an event of this nature has been held in Wisconsin and we’ll need as many volunteers to make it run smooth. If you can consider spending some time at this PYR$ it will be appreciated.

For our first timers, here’s the way things generally work at a meet. We begin to gather in the Library parking lot about 9:15am to schmooze and show off our vehicles. If the weather is good, we’ll begin check-in and our VTP’s (Vehicle Tire Pressures) at that time. At 10:00am we’ll begin to setup our room and by 10:20 we should be set to begin our introduction round robin. We’ll have a short session and then take a short break for snacks and item sales. We’ll then have our main session and offer some updates, reviews, news, short subjects and door prizes and then break for lunch about 12:00 pm. After our potluck lunch, we’ll begin our Drive $mart sessions about 12:30 pm and begin cleanup. Beverages and utensils will be supplied but we encourage all attending to bring some food to share. (Main dishes are greatly appreciated). Be prepared to be gracious, with the understanding that the agenda usually does not follow the timeline.
