BURLINGTON, Vt. - There isn't any one thing that's responsible for Ford's substantial boost in fuel economy in its new Fusion Hybrid model, it's a lot of little things that all add up.
Ford Design Engineer Praveen Cherian brought his new model to the UVM Transportation Research Center Monday and attracted a crowd. Cherian calls the Fusion a luxury mid-sized sedan with a lot of bells and whistles, including a rear-view camera system producing clear evidence of all that's behind the car.
Yet the Fusion still manages to get 41 MPG around town, which and offers a range approaching 700 miles on one tank of gas. The technology means very low carbon emissions and qualifies for "green car" federal tax credits of up to $3,400.
