"...When I made Roger & Me, Flint had 50,000 working for GM in 1989 - down from 80,000. Now I think it's 12,000". (http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/11/20/lkl.michael.moore/index.html)

Love him or hate him, Michael Moore sees General Motors 20/20 -- Ed.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reversed plans Wednesday to hold a test vote on an automakers' bailout bill on Thursday. Reid had planned to move on legislation that would have taken $25 billion from the $700 billion already approved for Wall Street and diverted it to the big three automakers.

CNN's Larry King talked Wednesday with Michael Moore, a filmmaker with deep ties to the auto industry. Moore's father worked for General Motors for 35 years.

In 1989, Moore became an international figure for his film, "Roger and Me," which centered on the declining auto industry in his hometown of Flint, Michigan and the ripple effect on the town's residents...http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/11/20/lkl.michael.moore/index.html

Moore hit the nail right on the head...corporate ego dictating what we buy and do it the ultimate in huberis. The irony is that this has happened before. GM has been on the brink on numerous occasions brought on by poor decisions, ego and mismanagement. GM got bailed out several times from 1900 to 1920 because they had grown "too big to fail". I guess history keeps repeating itself.

Yes Michael Moore is accurate in his analysis of GM. He has been maliagned and parroidied but he is the conscious of our country. His movie "Sicko" is dead on about our countrys health care problems. We spend thice as much as other countries and don't live as long. Health care will probably be the next GM.

Micheal Moore is a hero to this country. He's opened so many people's eyes to opinions that run against the brainwashed status-quo.

Thanks Mike!

Micheal Moore is a hero to this country.
:eyebrow:
A Hero is a person who in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self-sacrifice.

I don't see how he would be classified as a hero. Activist yes, hero absolutely not.

Never seen him without a ballcap on.

Michael Moore is an American hero. You do not have to carry a gun to be a hero. As Yoda told us "War make one great, it does not".

Seeing Moore confronting the auto execs in "Roger and Me" the hero tag, with Aether's definition, does apply. He was a nobody who stood up to power. I haven't watched it since the late 90s but it was a very memorable film that was pretty innovative in content and helped jumpstart the documentary film genre. I should rent it again and see if it still packs the same punch today. But yeah, after he made that name for himself, perhaps activist is closer to the mark now. I'd argue we need more of both activists and heroes in these times...

So when's the next movie featuring a thrown together collage of images designed to use subconscious messaging to warn of inflated evils and line Moore's pockets?

Given GM's critical condition, I would like to see Michael Moore do a sequal to Roger and Me. Maybe it could be called Rick and Me. :D

It would have to be Dark Comedy

Hi All,

I like his idea - nationalise the car companies, and have them build the things that are needed for the common good. Might add wind turbines and transmission line towers to his comments.

Nationalize the car company's? Look up British Leyland. You think Mini Cooper is still British.

I don't agree with everything Moore's said and done over the years, but I think he's done a lot more good than harm. But I can only support socializing things the private sector does not do well -- and the current crisis notwithstanding, that does NOT include the auto industry.
