Toronto – The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) held their annual Canadian Car of the Year awards and after a week of driving the latest offerings from the Canadian auto industry, the 2009 Toyota Corolla was declared a category winner. That being the best new small car under $18,000.
“We thank the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada for this honor and for recognizing the great innovation, safety and quality of the Corolla,” said Sandy Di Felice, Director at Toyota Canada Inc. “We are very excited about this important endorsement of the made-for-Canada Corolla as Best New Small Car under $18,000.”
AJAC crowned the Toyota Corolla CE with automatic transmission and “B Package” trim level with the award. With an MSRP of $17,740, the Canadian-built Corolla CE boasts an excellent fuel economy rating of 35.6 mpg combined on the Transport Canada test cycles (30 mpgUS combined on the 08 EPA). The Toyota Corolla is built at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada facilities in Cambridge, Ontario.
Canadianized Corolla?
“We completely redesigned the Toyota Corolla for the 2009 model year, with more performance, more safety, more comfort and more style. We then added many features tailored to driving in Canada,” Ms. Di Felice noted. “From pedals spaced to accommodate winter boots, to cup holders sized for the most popular double-double in the country, it’s no wonder the Toyota Corolla is a favorite with Canadian drivers, time and time again.”
