is that a typo or am I confused. 1 dollar spent = 1 point then $10,000 spent should be 10,000 points right?

I think you misunderstood. I went to the "reward point calculator" $10,000 spent = 10,000 points = $100 value at particiapting Toyota dealer

I think that by not putting myself at the mercy of a Toyota service department I have already come out far, far ahead of any points that I would ever earn on such a card.

I don't want my credit card to influence the choice of my next vehicle.

My next car may be a Honda, so why would I carry a Toyota credit card?

A few years back a friend told me how great the GM card was, so I signed up for one. Then every time I saw him after that he would tell me about the latest problem with his Chevy Venture. I cut the card up after a year, shedding no tears over the lost points as I figured I would save lots more long term if I didn't buy a GM.

I use several rewards credit cards, with different benefits for different uses. I always pay them off each month.

The ONE time I've paid any finance charges in the last 10 years was when I accidentally used the blue chase credit card at the ATM instead of the blue chase debit card. :o

You don't have to save up your points only for a new car. It is good on parts and service for your current car.

I use a Subaru Mastercard, however the deal is MUCH better as the Subaru card earns 3% towards SubaruBucks rather than the 1% the Toyota Card offers.

I essentially have free maintenance for life for my STi. Inspection/emissions, oil change... $0, even things I can do myself like the cabin air filter, wiper blades and new floor mats. The rewards are good for anything you can buy at a dealer.
