Interesting read, even for the decided -- Ed.
Anybody can run for President, anybody with money that is. It’s no secret that Obama and McCain are both relying on hefty financial donations to help them win the presidency. But just who’s donating to whom, and how much? Most importantly, how will those donations affect the candidate’s policies?
There’s no crystal ball to tell us exactly what high roller contributions mean for an Obama or McCain presidency. But Plenty (with help from the Center for Responsive Politics) peeked at Obama and McCain’s donor trail to get an idea of what possible paths the two candidates could take when faced with tough environmental issues. Surprisingly enough, we found that big-time financial contributors are already holding the flashlight when it comes to leading presidential candidates down the dark path of environmental quandaries.

koreberg 09-30-2008, 02:40 PM I would not be surprised to see an oil exec as mccain's secretary of energy.
I want to know who is giving to Obama that he hiding. Baracks campaign refuses to release their names.
I don't give a hoot who in what industry is giving money to whom as long as it is reported.
It is the people that are giving money from outside of the continental U.S. that is not being reported that is worrying me.
There are millions of dollars coming into Obama's campaign from Iran in small donations.

That statement is categorically false. The vast majority of Barack Obama's campaign contributions come in contributions of $200 or more. Under federal law all contributions of $200 or more and any contributions by PAC's and party committees must be reported.

On the other hand, the Washington Post reported in July that John McCain received 1.1 Million dollars in campaign contributions from the oil industry the previous month. Of that amount three quarters came after he announced he supported lifting a ban on drilling in the moratorium areas of the Outer Continental Shelf.

drummerboy2004 09-30-2008, 08:28 PM Government in general, is becoming too tied to anything that will bring money, and capitalism is to blame. I wish we could vote in an "American Idol" like fashion for which companies should get the extra life support funding, and let some of the money-hungry tycoons starve. Stretch of the imagination, but they should have socialized the oil companies when they first started, and used the record profits for better use.

Maybe you should look into socialism a bit more...
sailordave 10-01-2008, 01:37 AM However, Obama's campaign did receive money from Palestinians for roughly $24,000. Last I heard I believe he returned the money once it was publicly discovered and announced. Obama is also the receiver of the second highest dollar amount from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I would hope that whom ever is elected president appoints someone from the energy industry to the position of secretary of energy. You want someone who is familiar with the complexity of the energy market rather than a novice who knows nothing about the complexity of the energy market.
