Last weekend, Dan got 26.9mpg in a round trip from Houston to Dallas in a Toyota Tundra (5.7L). (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/stories/DN-autosside_24emp.ART.State.Edition1.4d560e5.html)

Everything I do behind the wheel of a car would probably irritate Dan Bryant.

Mr. Bryant, a Houston-area "hypermiler" and engineer with Hewlett-Packard Co., is also an automotive efficiency consultant who recently traversed much of Texas on one tank of gas in a Toyota Prius – 844 miles for an average of 68.5 miles per gallon.

The Texas trip was part of a Prius promotion, but Mr. Bryant says he has gotten as much as 128.9 mpg in his 2007 Prius…http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/stories/DN-autosside_24emp.ART.State.Edition1.4d560e5.html

Good story in itself, but also for what was not in the story. ;)

I love that first line.

I love the picture. It's why the "Dan Bryant rule" was instituted for this year's HF MPG Challenge.

I love the picture. It's why the "Dan Bryant rule" was instituted for this year's HF MPG Challenge. The story in that picture was he was still getting partial EV, but was making sure the gas engine would not fire up at the very end.

I love the picture.....

Ho well, I'am sure that's another idiot hypermilers technic to save fuel. (But between you and me, it is very efficient :D)

I left a good comment there because it's my local paper. I wish more texas drivers would take MPG seriously to help us as a state reduce our dependence on oil. We have to be sucking down the gasoline at a faster rate than anybody else!!

When I see some of the pickups blast by me, they are probably getting a fifth of what Dan got in that Tundra Crew Cab.

I'll have a writeup on the tundra shortly. It's basically just throwing the book at a big truck. The tundra has a 6 speed automatic transmission with very favorable gearing.

That Around-the-World race looks like it's going to be awesome!
Hope it's covered live on TV.
