LEXINGTON -- A customer at a Lexington car dealership may have unintentionally bought a Christmas gift. Lexington Ford accepted a down payment on a Ford Escape hybrid in June with the understanding that the car may not be available for delivery until November or December, said managing partner Jack Marcinkewicz.
“The problem is getting them from the factory,” Marcinkewicz said. “That demand across the region is just that high for them right now.”
The interest in hybrid vehicles has spiked throughout Central Illinois with dealerships reporting two- to six-month waits for popular versions of the gas-electric vehicles that are more expensive but get better gas mileage than their gasoline-only counterparts.
