2002 Toyota Prius -- Who would have thought this Green Car would start a revolution both on and off the road?
TORONTO, CA. - Toyota is already known to be an eco-friendly automotive technology leader with six hybrid models currently available in the Canadian Toyota and Lexus line up is not standing on its Hybrid laurels as it attempts to make things better – at home, at work and in local communities. The environmental efforts extend beyond automobiles to eco-action programs as demonstrated by the following activities:
Community program donations
Toyota Canada today announced a donation to support the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) with a check for $7,500 that will go towards the protection, enhancement and regeneration of natural watershed resources across the greater Toronto area.
Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds program
The Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds program is a nationwide eco-action initiative that brings teachers, students, and community members together to transform school grounds across Canada into green and creative outdoor learning environments. On June 17, students from Brampton’s Conestoga Public School helped green the Old Britannia Schoolhouse in Mississauga by planting sweet corn in the new vegetable garden, with funding from the Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds program.
Hybrid technology education
With gas prices still on the rise, many consumers are still curious about why and how hybrids work including the environmental benefits of owning such a vehicle. Canadians are getting first hand experiences with Toyota Hybrids at eco-trade shows like Montreal’s Salon national de l’environnement, June 13 to 15 and the “Earth Tones” event at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centrel from June 5 to 15. Look for the Toyota Hybrid Tour, a traveling tour featuring interactive displays and ride and drives that went across Canada last summer, to make stops at Ontario shopping malls this summer.
Not to be outdone, Toyota US Manufacturing was recently recognized by the US EPA for energy efficiency.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a 2008 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award to Toyota's North American manufacturing division, TEMA (Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.). The award was given in recognition of TEMA's continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency.
Chosen from more than 9,000 candidates, Sustained Excellence Award winners are a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year.
Canadian’s and American’s from all walks including drivers and non-drivers alike are gaining from not just a family owning a hybrid vehicle but from a multitude of programs designed to help a local community go green for the benefit of all.
