Dan demonstrates the legal way to get more gas - a carjacker in his home town shows the illegal way. :( -- Ed.

Bobby Lee Julien, who’s driven a fuel tanker for 27 years, was near the end of his route. It was 3 a.m. when he pulled up at a stop sign off State Highway 225 in Houston.

It took only a few seconds for the masked man to rip open the passenger door, jump in and point a gun at Julien, 52.

“I begged him not to shoot me,” Julien said. “I feared for my life. The whole time he had a gun pointed at me.”… http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24779216/

I'm glad my tank only holds 12 gallons.

I'll have to sleep on this one....

I wonder how long I could gas up for free "Borrowing" one of those 18 wheel tanker trucks. I mean they steal enough of our taxes to pay for the lost revenue to ethanol. It's only fair.

I'm actually inclined to agree with this one.

Didn't the plot to one of those fast and the furious movies have something to do with robbing 18 wheelers? Anyways, I remember way back when I was like 17 or 18 and gas was just starting to hit $2/gallon, my friend was talking about how much those 18wheeler tankers are worth and saying how easy it would be to rob one. But anyways the main problem we saw was how to store the fuel. It goes bad after something like 30 or 60 days anyway doesn't it? Because when he suggest robbing one, I had the same idea of just buying as much as you can while it's cheap and just storing it.

Yeah yeah, we're not actually criminals, just talking about "what if's" type situations.

Also, I read this in the article
Police said its fuel load would probably be sold on the black market, which is thriving as average pump prices approach $4 a gallon.

I had no idea that you can buy gasoline on the black market. I wonder how cheap it goes for. Seems like drugs are pretty easy to find but how in the hell do you find gas? Ask you local crack dealer for more info? Seriously, is there really a black market for gasoline?

Regular gas doesn't go bad. However, E10 will separate into the gas and water, with water sinking to the bottom of the tank. That's when it causes a lot of damage.

I can envision a black market of stolen gas, easily. Probably lower than the current market rate, but will easily go higher if the Gov reintroduces 70's style rationing and lines at the pump.

HAHA I can just see it now. 3 black lowered priuses zooming in and around the tires of tanker trucks!

(now that I think about it, I would totally be in on some of that action!)

Regular gas certainly does go bad, maybe not in 30 days, but whether it has e10 or not, eventually it will slowly lose it's octane and it will be all the faster if it's stored in light permeable containers or outside in the sun etc. I have a honda big red 3 wheeler that I use to work around the yard and haul off limbs etc and I've had gas that sat in it long enough that it wouldn't even fire the motor whatsoever, you could have dropped a match in the tank and been fine..on the gas stealing, I see this issue getting worse and worse, not just for gas but around here it's copper and anything that can be turned in for cash. Not long ago I had some scrap metal stolen from behind my house, it's getting pretty bad when thieves will actually lift heavy pieces of metal and do physical labor lol...

It reminds me of the Mel Gibson Mad Max series of movies. The specific movie I had in mind was The Road Warrior where central government has broken down and a lone oil well and refining outpost is defended by once nice people who lived in the 'burbs' and now defend the oil with every last inch of their lives. Shades of James Howard Kunstler's book The Long Emergency? :omg:

Only if we allow it.
