I just wanted to report some mileage figures since I did the head swap and got the cam timing corrected. I filled up last night so I could get some numbers for the guy that did the head work. The weather was HOT; about 92 on Tuesday and mid to upper 80's on Wednesday.(read heavy A/C use) I also drove around town Tuesday with my son and his friend plus my grandpa looking for some window A/C units for the house; ended up buying 2 and hauling them home. Distance for that tank was 149.6 miles and I used 3.786 gallons for 39.52 mpg. This also included going-to-work driving. I then went for a run on my test loop and travelled 41.4 miles and used .795 gallons for 52.02 mpg. This wasn't as good as my trip to Indy; shorter distance with more stops. Today, my new Scanguage2 arrived so I needed to top off the tank to get the Scanguage set. This was work and and country errand running and I travelled 65 miles and used 1.325 gallons for 49.05 mpg.

We had inventory today and I got out early at around 10:30am. I noticed that conditions were about as perfect as they could be for a mileage run; 72 degrees and absolutely no wind. I travelled 40.685 miles and used .72 gallons for 56.5 mpg. This is a new personal best.:D

whoa my personal best was 55 mpg over 7 miles. How heavy does your car weigh?

The Scanguage2 doesn't seem to freeze during FAS. As far as I could tell, the old Scanguage didn't either. I've heard that some cars used a different OBD2 protocol that made the Scanguage freeze during FAS.
According to a website I found that had all of the specs for my car, the curb weight is 239 pounds. With a full tank of gas(12.1 gallons), you could add 145+ pounds or so. Then if you add my weight, about another 200.:o There's an idea, go on a diet and increase you FE. :p

thanks for the info! lucky i only weigh 130 pounds... but didn't realize gas weighed that much as well! I feel its harder to hypermile with less gas than a full tank :S go figure!

Ooops!:o I just realized I forgot a 0 in my car's curb weight. It should be 2390 pounds instead of 239. That would be a truly amazing power to weight ratio. I think gas weighs somewhere around 8 pounds to the gallon or more.

I stand corrected. According to a page I just found, gas doesn't weigh as much as I thought.

1 gallon of water equals 8.33 lbs.
1 gallon of gasoline equals 5.8 to 6.5 lbs.
1 gallon of ethanol equals 6.59 lbs.

This is found at http://www.santacruzpl.org/readyref/files/g-l/gasoline.shtml This would make the fuel in my tank weigh 70.18-78.65 pounds.

wow what are your engine stats? your car is as light as mine well mine a bit heavier at 2400 pounds +! No wonder you've been pulling the high 50 tanks ;)

One thing that helps to keep my weight down is the body construction. The front and rear quarter panels are plastic. Also, the door skins are plastic. When you couple this with 60 psi tire pressure(P185-70-14 Goodyear Assurance Comfortread 44psi max) it makes a huge difference.

I hadn't thought about it that way before but, I think a driver's head mod may be the most important step to driving for FE. Drving for FE is a choice and requires significant effort. Anybody can get in a car and drive but not everyone can can do so to get maximum efficiency.

I wanted to update this post to see if I did my signature right for my mileage footer.
Edit: I guess I did something wrong. Help!?
Edit: Ok, let's try this again.

Thanks. By the looks of the post times, it looks like I figured it out at about the same time as you responded. :o

I just filled up tonight. It was a short tank because I'm supposed to take the family tomorrow for supper and the temps are forecast to be 94+. If I was going by myself, I wouldn't need to use A/C and the tank was looking good and I didn't want to mess up the tank mpg. Also, I added my data and it didn't show up. I actually added it three times and it never showed up. If anyone sees a triple entry for 155 miles and 3.218 miles on June 16, 2006 please delete 2 of them. I believe the multiple entries were adding to my lmpg but they weren't showing up in the fuel logs. Multiple log entries would help me reach expert status quicker but I want to do it the right way.

Hi Larry:

___Tom is still working on the DBase to get rid of the few bugs that are left for version 1.07. Missing entries is one of those nasty little suckers that need a whole can of RAID to deal with ;)

___Good Luck

I wondered if that was it after the 3rd time I tried it. I just want to make sure there aren't any duplicates to artificially increase my lmpg. :)

I just had a good segment. It was only 4.63 miles(verified by Google Earth) but it was still pretty good. According to the Scanguage, it registered 61.7 mpg. Now, if I can just do that through a whole tank. :)

Your doing great! It is good to see people pushing those kinds of numbers in a non hybrid. 61.7 this segment and then hopefuly another segment and then a few strung along together and soon you have your tank.

I just did another short segment tonight. I found out my Scanguage was set a bit high on the tank setting. It was set at 12.6% correction and I had to reduce it to 2.5% when I filled up to get what I actually put in. On 4.63 mile segment, I had a 64.7 mpg segment! :)

Hi Larry:

___Given what Tim accomplished today in his Accord, I bet you can almost taste Expert status in your SL ;) Keep knocking out those great segments because that tank is only a few hundred miles away!

___Good Luck

Another good segment(s) today. On the trip from my work to my wife's work this afternoon, (9.14 miles-Google) I had 59.0 showing on the SG. By the time I got back home from her work,(5.83-Google) the SG was reading 53.8 for the whole trip home today. Looks like 2 maybe 3 tanks to "expert." :D
