I finally got my Dashdyno calibrated, after buying it in December and not having my HX for a month! Calibrating it was such a big pain! When I first got my Dashdyno, it didn't even get me fuel economy readings! I assume it just came out and it was version 1.0 firmware. It did not work with the MAP [?] sensor of the HX, then they did a firmware revision where it worked!

Calibrating it is a 2 step process. First you have to do a distance correction factor, and then an mpg correction factor. - Is this how the Scanguage is too? The problem with the Dashdyno - you calibrate it using the Dyno Trip Meter screen - and this can reset every time there's an electrical surge [during start up, shut down, or while driving!] - and all of this happened to me. Plus sometimes I forgot to get on this calibration screen!

So I did a lifesaving trick for distance calibration. I lost a 450 mile one, and had to redo it. But this time I recorded my Dash and odometer settings on paper every time I shut off. Did 300 miles then it reset! But this was good enough for a distance calibration, as later I was trying a 650 mile mpg calibration and the mileage was only .2 miles off! But one major pain I encountered - my first full calibration - Auterra gave me the wrong correction formula and it was calculated in reverse! Then the Dashdyno totally lost all it's distance and mpg calibrations while driving! I was totally pissed off! Then I took this as an opportunity to install and use a 1 gb SD card instead of the supllied 256 mb one, and I set it up.

I almost had a 2 fillup 650 mile perfect mpg calibration last week, but the Dashdyno reset as I turned off my car! It was a big heartbreaker because my fillup and calibration was the next day! So this week, I finally got my mpg calibration on a 10 gal 435 mile tank!

It seems my calibration is spot on! I'm freaking out that I would average 45 mpg on my hwy drive to work, then it goes down to 42.6 mpg because of gas guzzling city traffic. It's hard to beleive my instantaneous mpg of 53 to 58 at 65 mph! I'm wondering if I'm regulating the pedal well as I have no cruise control, and my Niken Inclinometer isn't that great - it's slow to respond to fast changes on inclines, it's good for steady inclines, and it's crap in the dark because it has a crappy backlight. Not worth $90 ebay shipped, but there's nothing better!

I'm now running a weeks confirmation tank. Also new with the last tank was a full synthetic oil change and changing my PCV Valve. I drove the week faster at 65 to 70 mph and had a drag inducing bike rack and bike on, but my mpg improved from usual 41.5 to 42.5 mpg tanks to 43.098 mpg! Can wait till the next fillup!

With a fully calibrated Dashdyno, I'm gonna do a data collection run, 0 - 60 test, drive to work mpg run, drive mpg runs at 60, 65, and 70 mph, and data collection experiments concerning the best acceleration techniques by analyzing my recorded drives! The future looks good!

My experience with the Dashdyno was frustrating, and I was sending feedback emails to Auterra on correcting their formulas and upgrades to this system.

Stay tuned for a Dashdyno review when I fully know this device! It seem I'm the only hypermiler here that has one!

Hi 99HX:

___I still haven’t heard about the transition from Lean-burn to stoich but the older HX’s were almost always in Lean-burn so that helps once you get an offset in place.

___Good Luck

I think 5th gear 70 mph or less the HX is still in lean burn!

Do you keep a mileage log? I couldn't find it.

I don't know how to enter a mileage log here. I have maybe 10 weeks of weekly tanks logged on my Excel spreadsheet, with the conditions of my drive.

Upper left corner, where it says "Mileage Logs". At the top of that page is a link to "Add Vehicle".
