Jerk of The Day

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/593/JOTD_03-30-08.jpg
...because every jerk thinks they are....Special!

Sighted by: Delta Flyer
Vehicle: Dodge Ram 2500 doolie
Place: Hillcrest and Spring Valley in Dallas
Date: Spring 2006

This picture cause such an uproar at another forum I almost got banned - esp. from the members that saw no problem with commuting alone in 6000 pound vehicles. See this countless times in big pickup drivers - leaning like in a lawn chair with the one-handed grab, except in this picture it's even less - controling three tons at 70mph with only the back of your wrist? Have they stopped teaching two hands on the steering wheel in Driver's Ed? The steering wheel was supposed to be an advancment over the handle Henry Ford used on his 1896 runabout. So many rollover collisions around here...could it be driver in "lawn chair" is on top of a bottleneck, instinctively does a quarter turn with his arm, then has that "Oh ****!" moment as he spins or rolls out? And often they are thrown out because the windows are down and the seatbelts were not used.

BTW, the flamers seemed to think picking up a camera, to point-and-shoot was far more dangerous than driving like the guy in the picture. What do you think?

Have stories of your own? Send them and your pictures and they will be the next Jerk of the Day!

Looks like you'll easily fill all JotD slots for the rest of the year
the way things are going. :D

idea: JotD calendar to raise money; better yet, high FE cars calendar to raise money.

cheers,
Bill

I absolutely LOVE this "@#$%^&* "jerk of the day" thing. Why, I even felt compelled to add my own expletives. Keep up the great work, folks!

Is the 'middle finger' necessary on the pictures? It's the equivalent of using an expletive - and isn't very civilized; Sorry - but it isn't civilized.

I second the motion. Add a red slash through the pic.

I say leave it as is. A red slash through the middle of the picture is just too big and obscures the actual picture. If the finger is that bad (trust me, it's not - how many times a day do we see it on the road, again?) then I say just use nothing at all.

This feature just started and by no means set in stone - it can definitely be modified.

Ironically this started when a drive gave me that gesture.

Yes, we see that kind of behavior on the road frequently, but don't CleanMPG drivers try to be above that?

The purpose of Jerk of the Day is to allow members to vent, have a laugh at people driving very inconsiderately, behaving badly.

For those that know me, I probably go lighter on language than many, and definitely don't want to send the wrong signals to many of our members (some on our staff) that echew such. My choice was spontanous - the night it happened.

I'd like for our members to come up with an alternative...I think there is a way to convey the point and still get a laugh.

How about a caricature of a jack ass (donkey) instead? Someone could even photoshop a human face on the thing. That's less offensive, though personally I'm partial to the middle finger.

That's a good idea.

What about that, and a shield on the donkey similar to:
http://www.naturesblessings.com.ph/usdalogo2.jpg

but, it says something to the effect of: "Certified: Jerk of the Day"?

North end of a southbound donkey/horse?

It doesn't bother me much, but I'm fond of saying that people who flip me off are able to express their IQ with a single digit. People might judge you wrong if you use the finger.

Either the finger or nothing at all. I think "Jerk of the Day" at the bottom gets the point across well enough, but the finger sign's actually pretty funny.

(Wow, that's a lotta tags up there...)

I am partial to the :p smiley face for this purpose. Though one that isn't as "smiling" as the one on this forum migh be better.

Naaah. A good raspberry is more expressive IMHO than just a frowny-face.

Just to reinterate - future JOTDs will not have the finger, but we are open to other such embellishments. Hoping more members will make submissions, even though there is not exactly a formal process, but that did not stop lamebums. ;)

I think one of the JOTD's still have the fingers because I'd pulled it from much earlier in the original thread--I don't have the knowhow with Paint to add (or remove it) anyway.
