...because every jerk thinks they are....Special!
Vehicle: Ford Explorer
Place: 1/4-mile ramp on US75 just south of 190 Tollway in Plano, Texas
Date: March 25, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Leaving after work in Dallas rush hour traffic, US75 has five lanes on the quarter mile south of the 190 (Bush) Tollway - lanes 1, 2, 3, are thru lanes - 4 is Tollway West - 5 is Tollway East. For some reason this terratorial Ford Explorer won't yield in lane 4...the one I need to take the tollway west. Managed to get in the lane after a struggle, then he moved into lane 5 to take the eastbound tollway (wasn't this the lane he needed to "defend" all along?) Got this picture of his greeting while passing, which was subdued compared to a couple of seconds earlier.
Hi Chuck:
___I love the way you framed Jerk of the Day! Great idea too :D
___Good Luck

Chuck 03-26-2008, 12:36 AM I've seen various pets/car/student/{name it} of the week, month...some of the sites get plenty of activity just from that....so why not a Jerk of the Day? The roadways have no shortage of them. Sadly, it was too easy today. In fact, 20 minutes later a soccer mom attempted to do a NASCAR pass - did not make it.
BailOut 03-26-2008, 12:47 AM Can we have more than one on the same day? I think so!
This asshat thought it would be cute to produce the most high centered vehicle on the planet by lifting a mid-90's full-size Ford cargo van, tuning it to run way too rich, then driving it like a pissed off teenager:

Vehicle: Ford Van
Place: Mount Rose Highway (Nevada SR 431) southbound
Date: March 25, 2008 at 0805
He just had to pass me before the Mount Rose highway closed down to 2 lanes this morning. This meant I was stuck behind his odorous black-smoke-spewing monstrosity all the way over the mountain.
I reported him to the smog/emissions tattle tale phone line just as much out of spite as for a wish to see his highly mis-tuned vehicle forced into a tightly controlled emissions test.
Chuck 03-26-2008, 12:50 AM Brian,
Let's make your's the official Jerk of the Day for March 26...that's just ten minutes from now for me. ;)
Chuck 03-26-2008, 01:24 AM Brian,
Your pic/story is now officially The Jerk of the Day for March 26, 2008
I'll arm the picture phone. If we have a slow day we can post the guy who screamed at the nurse outside the chinese restarant.
I also vote yes on the flip off icon

lamebums 03-26-2008, 02:23 AM Can I submit this picture?

I'd just put it in as "The Idiot who Triple-Parked" or something to that effect. If you'd take it, I'll write up more about the occasion.
93Hatch 03-26-2008, 10:47 AM I had a winner today. A guy in a Ford right on my bumper. I figured maybe he was trying to draft so I slowed down a little more for him so he could save more gas (always willing to help my fellow commuters save some $$$). I tried to tell him to go around, but he was getting at the next exit. It's funny, I was going about the same speed as the SUV in front of me, but evidently if your not humping the trunk in front of you people get pissed off.
fitmpg 03-26-2008, 05:45 PM Here's one, though it really doesn't meet the intent of this forum: Last night on Hannity and Colmes, Sean Hannity made it a point to state that he now owns his FIFTH Cadillac Escalade (that's five, count em'.) He then went on to say that he "only buys American." My conclusion is that he needs the extra horsepower to ferry his tremendous ego from destination to destination. He's "arrived."

This is going to be a long thread...

Except for all the foreign oil he pays to fuel them.

fitmpg 03-27-2008, 04:19 PM " The first four are for spare parts." Brilliant!
lamebums 03-27-2008, 11:38 PM I have an idea - how about a forum for "Jerk of the Day"? This would auto-link to a small box on the front page which would have "Jerk of the Day" with a thumbnail of the car in question, and then clicking on it would link to the thread in the forum?
Hi Auston:
___You are on top of it! Chuck and I were discussing exactly that and some other features in the mod lounge and via phone this evening in fact ;)
___Good Luck

Mod lounge? Is there a couch in there, too? :p
Chuck 04-03-2008, 08:40 AM Just a note that Jerk of the Day is a new feature - only three members have made submissions. For this to succeed, more members will need to submit pictures and stories. Then we will have more volumn and variety.
JusBringIt 04-03-2008, 09:42 AM I will submit..but i havent found any jerks...:(
Would this be appropriate for JOTD?
Normally Madison Metro (the local bus service) runs extra buses on a particular route during busy times to help deal with said business. The bus marquees switch between the route and "Extra Bus", and the little route number displays switch between the route number and "X".
Well, today, I saw a "Not in Service" extra bus during the waning part of the busy time on the UW campus. The driver isn't to blame so much as Madison Metro. I mean, an empty bus during a semi-busy time in the heart of downtown? There's gotta be something that bus can do besides idle and drive with no one aboard.
By and large, I like the Madison bus system, but stuff like this irks me, especially since there are purported budget shortages and service cuts.
I don't have a picture, but if this would be an appropriate JOTD thing I'll make sure to grab one soon enough.
