Hi, just discovered this site a little while back -- wife got me a SGII for birthday and been using it to hone my driving on my '07 4-cyl Mazda6 -- got the car in December, driving through snow and slush in MN was getting around 26-29 mpg, now doing more like 30-34 and this last tank got 31.7mpg (including a lot of short hops) made 503 miles on the tank and with spring coming I figure it can only get better!

Welcome to the site. Great purchase on the scanguage. Looks like you already have a head start. Your numbers are only going to go up from here.

Another Minnesotan! Welcome!

What do you drive -- manual or automatic transmission? Do you have any questions about techniques?

Heh thanks everybody -- It's a manual stick, first I've had in year and enjoying the control it gives -- it's geared a little 'short', the rpms run pretty high at freeway speeds, probably has to with a 4cyl car this heavy. Looks like the mileage 'sweet spot' is right around 40mph on a flat stretch, seems like I can sustain 40-45mpg reasonably easily on those spots. Seem to top out around 32-36mpg at 60mph.

Been reading a bit on techniques here -- just doing basic stuff right now -- shutting off at stoplights that I know tend to last (even though wife makes fun of me), I may shut off early if I'm coming in to a longish stop on a straight run, some long neutral-coasting if there's a short stop or near-stop at the end of it, that's about as aggressive as I get right now. Also have the tires filled fairly tight. I'm developing an increasingly sensitive foot as the weeks progress too.
