Just got a note from an old high school friend now at Penn State.

Any PA folk out there offering any Hybrid Clubs or Driving Clincs?

NEPA here, at least on weekends/holidays/vacations. I'm about half way between Wilkes-Barre and Stroudsburg. Lots of mountains there so DWL and NICE skills are essential. Can't do engine-off in PA because you need the power steering to navigate around all the suicidal deer.

Yes, I know my profile says "Long Island", as I stay there Mon-Fri for work, and then return "home" to the mountains on the weekend. If anyone spots a car heading through NJ west on I80 on a Friday night, or east on a Sunday night, and it's sorta creeping along in the right lane at about 50mph, that's probably me. (And I travel only when traffic is light, so I am not causing any rage in other drivers :-) ) The Maxx gets about 40mpg when driven in that way. And with EZPass, you learn to crawl up to the toll plazas so the tag can be read and the gate raised before you have to come to a stop. On the inbound George Washington Bridge (in New York City), the EZPass has no gate and you only need to slow to 25mph or less. I scoot through at just under 25 and my converter clutch doesn't even unlock! The toll is paid, and the trans only shifts down as far as thrd and then I use the downhill after the plaza to regain speed.

I can easily drive from near Wilkes-Barre, PA to the middle of LI on less than 1/4 of a tank (16 gal tank), and nobody believes me when I say that. If they doubt me, I give them the URL for this site. Ha!

Wow wish we could come together; PA not like Texas, but it takes a while to get to anywhere especially if you are coming from each corner. NE, SE, and SW i am in Harrisburg (work), Live in Richfield-near PSU-Dan. So looks like it would be the center of the state to get a meeting started. then we could rotate every month or such. If anyone wants to start a club in PA let me know, I will go anywhere to get better at DWL.

-About those suicidal deer. I feel for you, my HCH has pretty good steering with out the engine on.

I am from Perkasie, PA, located in Bucks County. We have deer in the woods behind our house. This time of the year I see several deer a week, dead after being hit by a car.

I think you are about the closest member to me. I live north of Butler / Kittanning, up on the Allegheny River. I used to get down to Pittsburgh fairly often but now days rarely find a reason to go down. If we ever get enough members close to Pittsburgh it would be good to start an occasional meeting, if nothing else just to meet some other hypermilers. I would be willing to glide on down to the burgh!

I'm in Salford Township between Green Lane and Harleysville, PA. Plenty of hills here and I have to learn how to better get my 2006 Highlander Hybrid over them! Maybe we can pull together a SouthEastern PA group or something between Philly, Harrisburg and the Poconos? Say at Cabela's in Hamburg?

Yea, I'd be up for a PA CleanMPG GtG....pending the date, of coarse.

But we might want to get permission to gather from Cabela's(or any other venue for that matter) before we attempt to schedual it. Then again, there's always the option of choosing a public area...like a State Park.
I'm currently in the middle of organizing a Volvo GtG at Ikea in Conshohocken through Turbobricks.com. Going through the trouble of getting permission can really pan out in potential attendance.

As of 2 months ago I now live in Monroeville, PA which is just east of Pittsburgh. I might be cajoled into a CleanMPG GTG :)
