I've noticed an Insight for sale in the New Orleans Craig's List.It has been posted twice in the last week or so.I've only seen an Insigh on CL in NOLA 1 other time in 2 years.
It is a 2002 -AT-with low-22,000 miles.He-no idea who he is-is asking $9750.
Unfortunately it is the AT(more or less an AT) but it does get essentially Prius mpg-not bad at all.
We have loads of scams posted on our CL, but usually they give New Orleans as the location, not the west bank(Harvey, or Gretna, or Marrero-don't remember which place it is).It probably isn't a scam. The price seems reasonable-usually the scams have absurd prices-$2940 is a popular scam price for something worth 4X that.

That would be a nice find if it is legitimate.

It could be a great catch if the car is in good condition, has the software updates to the battery and the driver has long commutes.

Hi Charlie:

___A 5-speed Insight, it is not :( Still love the Insight but Honda gave away so much with the CVT that even $9,750 is not really a bargain in my book. The 22K miles looks darn enticing however :)

___Legitimate, who knows as it sounds like it may be a salvage title with that few miles?

___Good Luck

Did not notice the CVT part.

Yes, it is a shame about the CVT trans. It has no fluid coupling,so it is peculiar that the EPA numbers are so poor relative to the MT(48-59 vs 45-49.10 mpg highway-is it waaaay overgeared?
For ~$10,000 you get an 6 year old car that gets Prius type numbers-of course, it isn't a Prius and might be out of warranty-not sure what the time limit is in this state.
If it was a MT I would be tempted-I like low mile cars.
The owner doesn't mention a dodgy title, but the low miles are kinda suspicious. Why buy a high mpg car if you only drive 4000 miles per year?We do have lots of "sidewalk" dealers that fix up salvaged cars. They specialize inFE Hondas/Toyotas-since folks want them-and a lowish price will bring calls.Who cares about a good price on a Suburban?
Charlie
PS-We did have a flood of course ,and those cars keep showing up.In general flood cars look OK,and they usually smell ok now.If you look carefully, you can usually find very fine silt under carpets, in the seats , up under the frame , in light housings etc.

The scams generally have a low price like $2950 like you said but only list an email address, so you email them and sign up for lots of scam spam :(

That sounds like a good deal (except for the CVT...swap?) but I don't trust low mileage cars that can't be verified. My 40k Civic came with a complete service history, original owner.

I also never trust a car that someone has owned for less than a year. That smells like they got a lemon and want to unload it.

Don't forget how deep the water was there a couple of years or so back!!

boxchain,
Good point;why would someone want to sell a very low mile 55 mpg car now? It will cost him no less than $23000 to replace it with a 45mpg car,so why??
He might have a very good reason-just married, wife has kids, won the lottery,so he wants an Escalade, started a business that requires a delivery vehicle with carrying volume.
If I had the $$,I would take a look.

Don't forget how deep the water was there a couple of years or so back!!

My favorite was someone on NOLA CL was selling an 2006 something, and a poster replied asking if it flooded!

Hey, you're from my old hometown, where a very good local Vietnamese restaurant wound up, oddly enough. Pho Tau Bay, check it out if you haven't already.

Box-when I get a chance,I will.
Big aside,I have seen 3 VW TDIs for decent prices here lately.One a Beatle-5 speed-2000-$4999(no miles mentioned,so probably>150,000+).
I also saw a 5 speed Jetta-80000 miles for $10,500-2002 I think, and one other one that escapes me.
The VW TDIs have finally come down a bit in price to reflect the huge price difference in Diesel vs Reg gasoline.
Thanks,
Charlie

West bank didn't flood during Katrina.

There are *lots* of reasons that a two seat low-mileage high MPG car can come on the market.

Mr Bill,
There was plenty of house flooding on the west bank.Of course it was nothing like the east bank flooding in NOLA or the east bank of Jefferson parish. It was mainly house flooding of under 2 feet.It only takes a tiny bit of water to wreck a house-just enough to get to the sheetrock, and then it is drawn up and fungus/mildew do the rest.

There was some car flooding that reached the floorpan- 10 or so inches will do it on some cars.

I would guess the Insight went begging because it was an AT,and because we-nola-aren't really into tiny cars to save fuel.A 125,000 MT 2001 Echo went begging for $2900obo(I was tempted). There currently is a 140,000 mile 1998 Metro MT for $2500-(dead ac).It won't sell very fast despite it almost being an honest 50mpg car(tempted once again).
