Wow - something I can post here and my pet site! :)
San Francisco is going to process doggie poop into methane gas.
CNN Story (http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/22/dog.waste.power.ap/index.html)
This also keeps the water supply clean. Sea otters are harmed from parasites from cat feces, etc....

Between my dog and two cats, I should have enough methane to run the furnace and the gas grille!:D

On a mass scale across the country, this might reduce the need for water treatment plants.... :)

I sold Covant trash to energy power plant alot of steam traps on a thursday for there steam system. 7k shot to crap. They filed bankrupt the next monday. As of yet Ive seen not one so called uber recycling program make a profit or not cost tax payers money they where promised it wouldnt cost them. If SF wants to turn doggy poo into energy,,, get ready cali... your about to get screwed again. Abetter plan would be collecting methane gas from SF gay clubs on wensday, friday and sat. nights. I think it would work well in Tulsa also.

Noted, there have been failures, but hopfully someone can get it right. After all, livestock manure is already used for compost and fertilizer.
I hope solid waste can eventually be used as a fuel, recycled, etc as the number of landfill sites are limited.
One thing to note about the San Francisco SPCA - they were founded in 1868 to deal with people mistreating their horses.
