MetroMPG has really kicked it up a notch with his driving techinques. He just got his first 100 MPG segment today. He sure has come a long way from averaging under 50.

Hi Dan:

___Tell MetroMPG he knocking out some truly excellent segments and congratulations! I can only hope it clears the way for some of those guys over there to get with the driving technique vs. all the elixir’s, additives, head and/or intake mods, etc. It appears like low speed P&G with some FAS’ing to the stops and lights looks to be the story from the max and average speeds he posted?

___Secondly, is he MetroXFi here? I hope he joins us for the good news personally ;)

___Good Luck

I like the idea of a solar charger to keep the battery nicely charged. I wonder if I did that in my hybrid if I could keep the pack higher.

At the very least, the DC to DC converter would need to be active to make that possible, but more likely it isn't possible since all charging is supposed to originate from the high voltage IMA, not from the low voltage reserve battery.

A lot of people think of solar cells to charge a depleted hybrid battery pack. Not likely with today's technology, but they would still be important if they maintained the charge. Also, it might make capacitors a viable (and cheaper) alternative to batteries.

Hi all -

Thanks for the kind words.

FYI, I've been a regular lurker here since day one. The only reason I haven't signed up before now is that I've already fully saturated my "free" time participating in FE forums. (Actually, it's well beyond that, into "adversely affecting my work" status.)

It's taken some resolve to only READ the threads here, and not chime in, given the quality of the conversation.

But it would be rude not to de-lurk at this point, after Wayne's knowing eye-wink comment (see above). ;)

Dan gets full credit for motivating me to get off my butt and make a serious effort, particularly behind the wheel, but also with continued mods to the car. (Without one in particular I would never have seen a 100+ round-trip segment: the ignition kill switch that keeps the ScanGauge "live" when using FAS, thus providing the necessary uninterrupted FE feedback.)

And there's nothing like some friendly competition. I think Dan's a great example of someone using both approaches - mods & driving skill - effectively, while not grasping at straws on the mods side of the equation.

So - thanks again folks. And please don't take offense if I remain scarce around CleanMPG. It's not a comment on the caliber of folks here; it's more of a "me trying not to lose any clients" kind of thing.

Hi Darin:

___Great job on the segment and congratulations as that was indeed a fine accomplishment! I doubt there is another Metro on the planet that has seen even 75% of that performance in fact!

___As for the mods, many here know where the real jump in FE comes from ;)

___Good Luck and welcome to CleanMPG.
