A workmate phoned me as he was coming in to work. I was due to go home from night shift in an hour so was ready to go. He asked me how many miles would he get out of the low fuel light!! I asked him what was his current consumption, he said 40mpg (imperial. this is a 1.9tdi golf. he drives hard!!) i figured he would easily make it in if he dropped to 80 or 90 kph. He seemed distressed at the thought of doing 90kph (instead of 140 plus)but more distressed at the thought of being stuck on the side of the road. He made it in in the end and i definitely think he could be swayed towards our end of the spectrum. I'm doing my best to spread the word here but there is very strong resistance to change. Having said that, the new emmissions tax system seriously hurts users of vehicles with 1.4 + gas, and 1.9+ diesel. Already i'm noticing an increase in Station wagons, a drop in SUV's, more diesel cars, less aggressive driving. Its all good i reckon! Bring on EV thats all i say.
