Just out of curiosity, do batteries in series need to be as closely matched in amperage as batteries in parallel do? Those of you with makeshift battery "packs", how closely matched are your batteries?

A series string of batteries is limited by the lowest amperage battery. The same is true of solar panels, too, by the way... Match them if you can, or remove the weakest link(s).

What is super critical is that the ampere-hour rating be matched. If not, the smallest capacity cell will be discharged first and will then be reverse charged by the remaining cells.
