Two Iowa school districts have grabbed the wheel in a drive to reduce public education's collective carbon footprint.
About 200 members of the Iowa Association of School Boards took a field trip to the Statehouse on Tuesday to lobby lawmakers for more education money. They showed up in a pair of hybrid school buses owned by the Sigourney and Nevada school districts.
Most school bus fleets consist of diesel-engine buses. The educators say the more expensive hybrid models are cheaper in the long run because they are more energy-efficient.
But there's another selling point.
